We enter Bistro La Cocotte on the afternoon of Friday 2nd January. Quite accidentally… we didn’t eat anything for the whole day and we’re looking for a place where we can have something tasty and visit a new restaurant at the same time. At least new for us since Bistro La Cocotte has been around for quite a while. I remember wanting to go there in the summer after seeing their cosy patio on somebody’s Instagram…
Right now it’s windy as hell on the patio and the Bistro itself is a bit hidden since the gate behind which the restaurant is located, is currently covered with scaffoldings making it easy to miss. Bistro is located on ul. Mokotowska 12, right next to pl. Zbawiciela. Mokotowska seems like one of the tastiest streets in Warsaw right now: Bazar Kocha, our beloved Ale Wino, cakes in Słodki Słony, Bistro la Cocotteand some more places which we still have to visit – Shabu Shabu and Caucasian Minimo Bistro (we’ll get there someday!).
The place looks charming from the very first sight. White furniture, checkered white and red tablecloths, open kitchen and loud chats of the chefs. Tiny rooms, 2 floors. It looks so homespun that you don’t want to leave. At the same time it’s so charming that it seems like a perfect spot for a date. Of course if the food is A+ as well 🙂 It’s funny that French hip-hop is the background for these girly tablecloths 🙂 We like it but as the place fills up, the staff turns it down a little bit…

I love places like that!

It’s hard to choose since we want to try so many different things! French cuisine keeps bringing good memories, not only after our stay in Paris but also after out trip through the North of France with 2.5 month old Maks. Brittany and Normandy were absolutely magical, fantastic an full of flavours and picturesque places. I finally manage to make a decision. I take toasts with aubergine(PLN 13) while Łukasz gets quemelles de brochet (PLN 18) which the waitress describes as a ‘fish dumpling’ – we’ll see what’s that! When it comes to main courses we order two classics: confit de canard (PLN 35) – duck leg confit with sliced potatoes and boeuf bourguignon (PLN 32) – beef Burgundy.
Toasts turn out to be delicious – crispy baguette, lots of soft and delicate aubergine all served with a tasty tomato sauce. I would like to know how to make such an aubergine at home so much! ‘Fish dumpling’ is indeed a dumpling… but made of bread. The dumpling floats in a fish sauce with shrimps (a bit similar to best French bisque). Another A+ meal!
Main courses are a bullseye as well. Perfect, delicate and melt-in-your-mouth beef in a spectacular sauce in which we dip our potatoes. Duck not only looks great but tastes perfect too. Especially with delicately fried sliced potatoes.

We stick to our tradition which says that after such lunch we NEVER skip the dessert 🙂 On January 2nd, early evening, only one French classic – creme brulee is available. We have to try it! Creme brulee in a French restaurant is like tiramisu in an Italian one. Proves that the place is good or just the opposite.
It’s here. Looks perfect. A knock on the crust with my spoon – it’s crispy. As it should be. It’s a warm, creamy, just perfect. Ladies and gentleman, we have landed in France, even though we haven’t left Warsaw.

creme brulee like it should be
Bistro la Cocotte is a perfect place for a romantic dinner for two. It’s charming, delicious and intimate. Don’t hesitate a minute! 🙂 Go there today!
PS. When it comes to French restaurants in Warsaw, Bistro la Cocotte seems like the cheapest option! At least I haven’t seen such tasty French place with so affordable prices. We both had a starter and a main course, one dessert for two and we paid…
