I’ll be honest with you: there were a few times when we almost got to Senses. It was always around some important occasion, it was always us trying to book a table there and it was always us who were informed that there were not a single table available. We wanted to go there before Christmas, we wanted to go after Christmas, but we never succeeded. No right occasion, no table available… Then we figured we’d let go a little: we know that the most awarded restaurants with the most stars are not always the ones that we find the best, so we figured that noodles in some bars by Italian beaches or pinxtos in bars in San Sebastian are more enjoyable for us than stars and World’s Best Restaurans.

But this time Łukasz decided to surprise me on my name day – you don’t celebrate name days, but I’m the one that always says: every occasion to celebrate is good. We’re coming – we need to finally see what masterpieces the Italian Chef Andrea Camastra creates.

The place is elegant, but pretty nice and warm. I don’t like restaurants that are too fancy, but this one is not one of them. The staff is nice, smiley, not too conceited – it’s usually not the case when it comes to restaurants with many stars. In Senses, like in most of restaurants on the same level, you don’t decide what you want to order – there’s a degustation and you’re either in or you’re out. You can try out 6 dishes for 380 PLN or 9 for 580 PLN – of course, you can ask for some products to be eliminated if you’re allergic, pregnant, on diet etc. You can also get a wine pairing to your menu – if you choose the one with 6 dishes, it’s 290 PLN.

We both chose 6 dishes and so the spectacle began. First, we got incredible bread baked right there and tiny appetizers – amazing in their form and taste. There were some small balls stuffed with oscypek and cranberry powder (PARADISE!!!), carrot macaroons, tiny blinis and mozzarella with prosciutto di Parma. In theory, it sounds pretty classical, doesn’t it? Well, then take a look at what it all looks like! Simple ingredients, but in an incredible version! I bet you’ve never eaten oscypek and mozzarella like that. It’s absolutely amazing! Appetite for the main dishes is growing and you start to regret those were only appetizers. You want more!

I won’t try to describe every dish to you separately because I think I can’t remember these complicated recipes, and the menu in Senses changes, so you might get a completely different set of dishes when you get there. What makes it one of the best dinners we’ve eaten in the past few years is, of course, its taste. The descriptions of the dishes sound incredible sometimes, ingredient combinations and their looks may surprise you, but the taste always wins – every time! Out of our 6 dishes, 4 were absolutely spot-on. The other two were delicious, but not as good as the rest.

One of the first few dishes, which is pierogi ruskie-bottarga-pork fat-smoked cream-red shrimp – is incredible. The taste is brilliant, just like the amazing, delicate consistency. Crab-pork cheeks-stew- yuzu-yogurt – it’s an interesting dish. Besides the plate with crab, addictives and a great sauce we get… Senses hot dog! Hot dog in SUCH restaurant? No way! This one is with crab meat and fits perfectly with the rest – it’s tiny and delicious – I can’t help but take the food out of Łukasz’s plate. Scallop-cucumber salad-dill-lime-Oscietra caviour – we enjoy it a little less. As for me, it’s a little too sour, not my thing, but maybe, as the staff say, this is how it should be – you should eat something different before the last, main dish.

The last thing before the dessert is undoubtfully a real hit! Wagyu – artichoke – Polish korma – plum – rapini broccoli. It’s served on plates with a wooden box with the most important character – this is where the meat is! To be honest, I’m not even half as “meaty” as Łukasz – I don’t fall in love with steaks, I almost never order them, I never eat them at home… but THIS meat!!! Amazing taste, the best consistency… We almost fought for the last bit!!!

Everything is so good that we also order tagliolini with white truffle – I mean, the chef, Andrea Camastra, is Italian. The amount of truffles vs the amount of pasta will make every fan of theirs content!

After all that, time for dessert finally comes! Besides apple pie, you get some other, smaller and bigger addictives. In the category of sweets, Łukasz loved a delicate cigarette pastry roll with white chocolate cream. The main attraction of the dessert part was a little too complicated for us, though… goat milk ice cream, chocolate spherification, sour, apple stuffing coming out of a chocolate ball. I’d rather stay with equisite dishes. But small macaroons with a cream that tasted like whipped cream were cool… perfect for one bite!

The dinner at Senses was totally amazing. No doubt it was one of the best dinners of the year, maybe even of our lives. It was also one of the most expensive dinners, but when it comes to Senses and Camastra, it was worth it!

If you’re looking for a place for some special occasion – you’ve found it 🙂

P.S. The dishes look better live than in our pictures 🙂 You can’t take pictures with a flash on in Senses, and the light didn’t make it possible for us to do better.
