Life has been kind to us this year: we keep ending up in beautiful and magical places and as usual, we can’t keep the impressions to ourselves 🙂 It’s happened once again, even though I absolutely haven’t seen it coming!

I was very happy when I heard that we’re going to attend a journalist-blogger trip to a newly opened Spiżarnia Warmińska in Olsztyn. The city always brings good emotions – every time I walk through the High Gate and hang around the old town I feel calm, relaxed and satisfied. It’s one of these cities I’m sentimental about and I guess it’s going to stay this way. This visit to Olsztyn wasn’t the first one. I was looking forward to the food at Spiżarnia Warmińska – we already checked it in June and it was really tasty. I still remember their goat’s cheese cheesecake. I’ll surely write more about Spiżarnia…

I wasn’t paying that much attention to our accommodation, the plan changed several times with different places being considered, but finally I learned that we’re going to stay in Glendoria. I remembered the name and that’s all. Didn’t Google it, didn’t check their Facebook, didn’t get much into the subject. But then I heard that rooms are made from huge tents and that it’s one of the most original places in Poland. I felt quite excited. Like I always do before going somewhere new…

We reached Glendoria early afternoon. When you arrive, the first impression you get… well you don’t get any. There’s a field, trees and solid countryside architecture. Where’s this luxurious agritourism? There’s nothing here! And then you walk underneath the trees minding your steps since there are tonnes of apples, prunes and mirabelle plums lying around the path and finally reach the pool and wooden folding beds. You see the woods, a field, peace and harmony and you know it’s going to be just right…

You go further and see wicker chairs, tables and a sofa. A perfect place for a lazy breakfast or to read a book if you’re coming without a child. The impression gets even better when you reach the… barn! It’s an absolutely magical place which I cannot relate to anything else I have seen in my life. A huge barn with a dining hall and a chill out zone. It’s there where we eat our high teas and delicious breakfasts during which Łukasz falls in love with a fried egg bun with amazing garlic and estragon sauce and me with pancakes with blueberry jam. In the barn, you can sit at the table, have a chat, drink wine or tea, play chess, watch a movie or read. The interior design is fascinating. I don’t know what I like more – “newspaper” lamps hanging over the tables, huge paper balls which make the barn more cosy at night or cow-patch armchairs on the second floor. I know one thing: this barn is spectacular!

In Glendoria you can stay not only in rooms but also in… huge army tents all of which are decorated differently. Same goes for the rooms. The vibe in each and every one of them is spectacular. Each element seems to have been planned thoroughly, each has a soul. Our room included a fireplace which made cold evenings more pleasant.

We’re amazed and so is Maks. We’re here with him on an organised trip with no other children. Regardless of that he seems to be having fun. He’s fascinated by the pool in Glendoria where he won’t be able to swim due to the weather but he can still watch a frog. He spies on local cats, looks for mushrooms, plays on the swing and ‘plays’ chess. During bonfire he’s the first to bake so called dragon tales – tubes of yeast dough on a stick which is then filled with chocolate and prune jam. However the biggest thing for Maks was African ostriches (think so) which live near Glendoria.

Everything in Glendoria is beautiful but CAMP SPA is surely the highlight – we have never been in a spa like this and if you did, be sure to let us know! The path to spa leads through a door to the woods. A door to nowhere or to a secret garden. Then you see some signs reading SPA, MASSAGE, SAUNA, WASHTUB. Following this path, we find a beautiful wooden house in the middle of the woods, arranged to provide the most relaxing kind of massage ever and another one with sauna, wicker folding beds and a jacuzzi made in a wooden washtub where you can sit ingesting the scent of the woods. WOW! I had to pinch myself to make sure I’m not dreaming.

I didn’t expect that Glendoria and its luxurious agritourism or glamping as they call it on their website, ‘slow life at the world’s end’ will become one of our biggest discoveries this year! Consider it for the next year’s summer vacation – they operate from May to the end of September!
