Every day we get questions from you. Via e-mail, on Facebook wall or via Facebook messaging. You ask about various things… about your first trip with a child, about hotels on Crete, magical places in Poland where you could have your wedding, about Spanish tapas in Warsaw and Italian cuisine in Wrocław. We cannot always answer your questions but we always try. One of the popular questions (especially in spring and summer) is: where should I go for a short trip with my kid?? A quiet place, close to nature, with a lake or beach nearby so that the kids can play. Most of you want a place in Poland, many near Warsaw.
I have to admit that we didn’t know such place before. There’s plenty of places in Poland we love and we wrote about them on numerous occasions. However most of them aren’t exactly children-friendly. Usually there is a kids’ corner, but these aren’t places where your kids will love to stay and play because they like it so much.
But last week, we found just the right place! And I can’t even say we discovered it! They discovered us and invited us to their place. Thank God for that since it’s a perfect place for families with children. Even better if you’re planning a trip with a bunch of friends and their little ones! Everything you need is there: cosy apartments with a fully equipped kitchen, large wooden tables on the terrace where you can have breakfasts in the morning and sit by the barbecue, beer with juice or sangria in the evening. There’s also a lake a stone’s throw from the apartment and plenty attractions for kids too!
Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to Mazurska Arkadia! We arrived in Mazury last Saturday and stayed until Tuesday. If it wasn’t for Maks’ scheduled visit at the hospital we would have probably stayed for the whole week cause it was so perfect!
Mazurska Arkadia can be found by lake Szóstak in Mazury in the town of Orzechowo, near Stare Juchy. The neighbourhood is quiet, calm, perfect to relax in and carelessly do nothing. There are 3 apartments: Kormoran (cormorant), Bocian (stork) and Czapla (heron). Big and small. Czapla is perfect for two 2+1 families – there’s 2 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, shared kitchen, a living room and a terrace. We love places like that when we’re travelling with our friends. In the evening we lay our kids to bed and then we can sit on the terrace until late night without worrying that our child is crying somewhere far in the hotel room.
The apartments are simple, nicely decorated (you can see them HERE) and what’s the most important when travelling with a child: EVERYTHING is there! Fridge, dishwasher, fully equipped kitchen including plastic plates for kids, towels (not so usual!) beach towels, children toilet appliances, kids’ beds and a TV. Everything. You’ll quickly know how the owners got the idea after you meet them. They got four kids! And they precisely know what do travelling parents need! They also know what kids need…
Mazurska Arkadia is a real paradise for kids! After we got back Maks told us that from now on he only wants to go to Mazury which worries me a little bit 😉 There’s a playground which is really cool and quite big as for a place with only 3 apartments, a trampoline, plenty of space to run around, big and small bikes, bike child seats and helmets so that the kids can go cycling with their parents. There’s also plenty of bikes for adults. There’s a club-room where the kids can play if they get surprised by rain during their stay! So again: there’s EVERYTHING! Maks run barefoot to the playground right after he finished his breakfast and sometimes gave up on the trampoline as late as 9 pm… Only if he wasn’t building a sand castle on the beach at the time! Yup: the beach and the lake! You can’t have good vacation without it!
The apartments are not situated directly by the lake, you have to walk to it but it’s a pleasant 3-minute walk close to nature (unless you’re walking with a kid who closely examines every stone – then it may take you as much as 30 minutes!). There’s a small private beach, a pier and again: everything! Inflatable rings, sharks and dolphins for kids, dinghies, armbands, buckets. Plenty of water attractions for adults too – kayaks, a motorboat, a pedalo, a sailboat. Everything included in the price so you can use it as long as you want. That’s how Łukasz remembered his long forgotten sailing skills and we managed to sail the boat a little bit. Maks wanted to test the pedalo so we used it too. And when we got tired, we laid on the beach looking at Maks and other kids building a huge dam for several hours… I can’t remember the last time we went to such a relaxing place!
How’s the food? There’s no alimentation in Mazurska Arkadia, but there’s a kitchen, a barbecue and a bonfire spot. There’s also a fruit and vegetable garden where you can get fresh cherry tomatoes, raspberries, salad, basil or cucumbers! Back to the roots – like years ago in my grandma’s garden 🙂
During our stay we had breakfasts on the terrace, enjoying scrambled eggs by Łukasz made from eggs taken right from the hen. For dinners, we had delicacies from the barbeque or the bonfire, prepared by the owners. And for lunches we visited nearby Stare Juchy. There, you will find Bar pod Gruszą with traditional Polish cuisine and local specialties (cepellinai!). But Gościniec NA WZGÓRZU is a much better choice – we only found it on our last day and it was a big mistake. Great potato babka, delicious and genuine pork chop with homemade stewed fruit. I can feel my belly rumbling when I think of it! You can also go to Pietraszówka (in Pietrasze village) for Masurian offal pastry – unusual yet very tasty!
What else can I say: a perfect place for a family trip or a trip with friends and their kids. We’re already thinking about our next visit! 🙂 They say October in Mazury is quite nice…. 🙂
PS. If you’re planning on going off season (September-June) you’ll have to arrange your stay individually depending on the number of guests. You will find all the information about the prices and stuff HERE.
