Saturday. Afternoon gets hotter than ever. The car thermometer says it’s 38.5 degrees. Sweat is running down my back and a water bottle is my best friend. We try to eat something at one of the events by the Vistula river but somehow we don’t succeed… It’s hot. And we’re not that hungry. Just for a little snack. Vegetables, something to nibble on… We’re thinking hummus and baba ghanoush. Is hummus light? Can argue about that.. But in heat it works much better than a pork chop, potatoes or pasta with sauce. Middle East can’t be wrong about that. They know what does heat mean! 🙂
We’re wondering where to go.. Both to eat and to sit for a while. It’s supposed be to tasty and nice. Ul. Poznańska. It’s been years since we’ve been there! Every time we get there I feel sorry that the street was a completely different place back when I used to work on ul. Wspólna. No cafes and bars back then! Right now Poznańska is a real culinary goldmine. We decide to pay a visit to BEIRUT hummus & music bar.
We’re not feeling like eating a huge lunch. Just a few snacks. So we can sit, talk, rest from the heat and eat something small with our friends. We satisfy our cravings and take hummus with minced beef (PLN 18) and baba ghanoush(PLN 18). Hummus is good and the beef is spiced up nicely. Together they make a perfect couple! It’s a pity that our cucumber is dried out though.. doesn’t look too good. We quickly set it aside. Menu includes plenty of other interesting hummus types – with lamb, sundried tomatoes or fava beans. We devour baba ghanoush with olives and pita bread. It’s good but I had better. In Meza Beirut on Ordynacka for instance.
Our friends go for a halloumi, pomegranate and mint salad. Halloumi works great!

halloumi, pomegranate and mint salad – approx. PLN 18

hummus with minced beef – PLN 18

baba ghanoush and pita – approx. PLN 18
Halloumi burger (PLN 20) served in fantastic crispy bun is yet another strong thing about Beirut. The most filling meal from all we tried. Definitely to share if you’re also taking hummus or other sides. If you’re just going for the burger, it can easily work as a lunch for one person. A nice combination especially if you don’t eat meat. We do, but on hot, summer days we prefer something lighter. Here, you get a fried halloumi, vegetables (gilled pepper) and this great bun!

BEIRUT hummus & music bar is a great place for a quick snack, lunch or evening with friends. With beer and hummus. Poznańska is super attractive and once it gets you it won’t let you go. Hopefully it stays that way!
PS. and today we’re eating our own baba ghanoush! 🙂
