I always loved romantic dinners for two. Who doesn’t? 🙂 They got their own charm as it is time spent only with your loved one. No friends, no kid, no anybody. I like when they’re long, calm and relaxing. Preferably at the end of the long week. Obviously in a nice place of some kind. Delicious food is also a must because nothing can spoil the mood like bad food on a dinner with your loved one, you waited for for a month or two. Such dinner is a holy thing and we try to organise it once in a while, even with little Maks on board.
Lately, we’ve been having romantic dinners for two less often, since when we’re in Warsaw, we prefer spending evenings with friends. But for our anniversary, we went for an exceptional dinner in an exceptional place. That evening inspired me to make a list of places perfect for a romantic dinner. Places that are varied – sometimes more intimate, sometimes more casual, sometimes with very creative cooking that surely deserves a Michelin star. Sometimes very elegant, sometimes more ordinary. All the restaurants have two things in common – great food and perfect atmosphere for this particular occasion. Something you should try on Friday or Saturday! 🙂 Gentlemen – now you know what to do to make your wives / women / girls / fiancés happy! Get to it! 🙂
8 PLACES FOR A ROMANTIC DINNER FOR TWO:
(the order of restaurants on the list is random)
1) BISTRO LA COCOTTE – ul. Mokotowska 12

Bistro la Cocotte is definitely a place that won our hearts instantly in 2015 and stayed with us for good. We return there quite often – for dinner or lunch, together or with friends. For some it’s too ordinary for a romantic dinner, but for us it’s just perfect – red and white tablecloths, little Parisian bistro’s vibe, intimate atmosphere and great food. Just have a bite of toasts with blue cheese or aubergines, dig in great mussels or enjoy creme brulee… and look yourselves deep in your eyes. We’ve already sent a few couples there and everybody was happy.
2) FOCACCIA – ul. Senatorska 13/15

We were amazed by Focaccia Ristorante’s interior from the first sight. Me, especially since I think that there’s no other restaurant in Warsaw that’s so stylish and feminine. White colour, bright furniture, white flowers around – it’s easy to fall in love with such a place. The food? On one hand, there’s a lot of classic Italian meals with pasta and pizza while on the other the menu includes plenty of new and intriguing propositions that show the skills and craftsmanship of the chef (Łukasz Toczek) much better than spaghetti aglio e olio. Our favourites include an octopus with lemon mousse, tomatoes, grapefruit and avocado, ravioli con cervo – with deer and blackcurrant and obviously raviolo con uovo e panna. Meateaters should be satisfied with great sirloin steak served with a toast and foie gras.
3) SALTO – ul. Wilcza 73

We chose this place for our sixth anniversary so it must be special! 🙂 If going to the restaurants, tasting and writing about it is almost your job, you look for something really extraordinary for your anniversary dinner. That’s what Salto is. The miracles Martin Gimenez Castro does surely deserve a Michelin star,
so if your woman, wife or girlfriend is interested in good food, you have to take here there. Delicious fish and seafood, amazing desserts like deconstructed apple pie which looks like a glass apple at first…
4) LA ROTISSERIE – ul. Kościelna 12, Mamaison Le Regina Hotel

I have to admit, that we never went to La Rotisserie for dinner! But we had lunch there and we know that Paweł Oszczyk is one of the biggest talents in Poland. You can choose a 4, 5 or 6-course tasting menu for dinner. I would be happy to try everything from the current menu
. Especially scallops, fish cream soup with green onion, crispy mackerel and confit egg. And for dessert – white chocolate risotto. La Rotisserie is also fantastically located – after a dinner together you can have a long walk through the Old Town. I don’t know how about you, but for me a combination of a romantic dinner and a walk in such a nice environment sound like a perfect plan for Friday’s or Saturday’s evening.
5) ALE WINO – ul. Mokotowska 48

Ale Wino is yet another place that works great for many different occasions. We’ve gone there frequently in the summer and I guess we will be back as soon as it gets warmer. Ale Wino is a great choice if you want a bottle of wine (or two :)) accompanied with great food. Their meals are always intriguing, unusual and very tasty combinations – I once fell in love with celery ravioli with cauliflower and truffles, then in tuna with fresh wasabi and cucumber gazpacho or with apple dessert with foie gras. Right now I’m tempted with watercress tartare with parmesan or morel risotto. Reportedly, a new, spring menu is going to be introduced soon.
6) CASA PABLO – ul. Grzybowska 5a

You know I have everlasting love for everything that’s Spanish. I love Spanish tapas, that you can try in Tapas Gastrobar in Warsaw for instance. But what can I say – Gastrobar is a cool place for an evening with friends, chit chat with girls or a cool lunch, but a much too loud one (thank God for it! – that’s what a tapas bar looks like) for a romantic dinner. Fortunately, there’s Casa Pablo, Tapas Gastrobar’s sister. In TG you can try traditional and simple stuff such as patatas bravas, pan de tomato or tortilla de patatas while Casa Pablo will blow you away with scallops carpaccio with grilled pineapple, foie gras, cauliflower flower and smoked olive oil… or with salmon marinated in beets with wasabi emulsion, soy gel and caviar. It’s another place where the chef – Gonzalo de Salas Smith from Spain enchants his guests. Perfect for the picky ones 🙂
7) BISTRO DE PARIS – pl. Piłsudskiego 9

This ranking reminds me that we definitely have to visit Bistro de Paris again. We used to go there quite often back when I was pregnant and Michel Moran wasn’t a celebrity yet. It’s a classy place with A+ service no European restaurant would be ashamed to hire. Perfect for a special occasion.
Right now there’s plenty of novelties on the menu, yet Bistro always offers French classics served the best possible way – onion soup, oysters, Mediterranean fish soup, Burgundy snails, thymus, foie gras, chocolate soufflé (the best!) or creme brulee. As for the novelties, I would be happy to try ravioli with goat’s cheese, walnuts and chives or a seabass fillet with sweet potatoes and ginger foam while Łukasz would surely go for Brittany langoustines. I think I already know where we’re having our next dinner 🙂 If you’re thinking of Paris in the spring, Bistro it’s a good teleporting spot.
8) NOLITA – ul. Wilcza 46 (corner of ul. Poznańskiej)

Last, but not least. Surely not least. Nolita by Jacek Grochowina is yet another hot tip. The interior? Perfect for a dinner together – full of deep looks and intimate conversations. That’s what it looks like to me at least. And the food? Miracles. It’s yet another of Warsaw’s restaurants that has been named a contender for a Michelin star and every year people get mad when it doesn’t get it. We spent one of our anniversaries there too – 2 years ago. Menu changes often – you can see the current one here. Yet another restaurant in our ranking, where I would like to try everything! And a pistachio soufflé with chocolate ice cream for dessert sounds like a genuine culinary orgasm. Isn’t that what we expect from a romantic dinner?
I guess it goes without saying that women love when their men come up with an invitation for a dinner for two themselves. On THEIR own. Fix a nanny on THEIR own as well. Choose the restaurant, book the table and then, take for a romantic walk. There you go, men. And you girls, don’t keep them waiting! If you have a guy at home who doesn’t read blogs or get good ideas, take the matters in your own hands! 🙂
