La Rotisserie in Mamaison Hotel Le Regina is surely one of the best restaurants in Poland and it’s a real shame we never got there before. Ok, we went there once but it was long time before the blog and we didn’t eat anything since we wanted to try some seafood which they didn’t have at the moment. After that it never was in our way, because every time we went to the Old Town, we just strolled with Maks and a 2-3 year old hyperenergetic child is not the best companion to take to such an exquisite place. A place which has been lead by amazing chef Paweł Oszczyk who is one of Poland’s best chefs, for a long time. We’ve heard such opinions many times and now we finally had a chance to see if it’s true.

Paweł Oszczyk has been working in La Rotisserie for 10 years. Wow. That’s something to feel proud about in a world where people change their jobs and approaches to life all the time and chefs tend to work in a different restaurant every season. 10 years means their collaboration is doing fine which makes it a particularly tempting place for customers.

La Rotisserie has just introduced its new lunch menu idea called Straight from the market based on seasonal produce, not only local however. New menu was the reason we found ourselves in La Regina on Tuesday. We had the pleasure of testing this new idea with some other bloggers. Straight from the market is a lunch you can have from Monday to Saturday between 12.00 and 17.00. First thing I like is the fact you can choose 2 or 3 meals from 5 available yourself. 2-course menu costs PLN 78 while 3-course option costs PLN 88. Some may say: almost PLN 90 for a lunch??? That’s expensive! But it’s no ordinary lunch! It’s a kind of lunch you never tried before since here during lunch time you can try surprising and delicious fine dining meals prepared by one of the best chefs in Poland. In the end it’s you who composes the menu. You can have a soup and two main courses, a starter or a dessert or a classic set of a starter, a main course and a dessert. Great idea to make lunch menu available also on Saturdays – you can drop by while having a walk in the Old Town. 🙂

On Tuesday we had the opportunity to try all the 5 meals from the next week’s menu – new lunch menu in La Rotisserie will be introduced every Wednesday. Current one is available until Wednesday the 8th.

As usual, I couldn’t help not nibbling on perfectly crispy, tiny baguettes with butter. I have a little fix on bread and these were just perfect!

perfect baguettes to start with – I’s be happy to eat them all!

First we got the starter – rabbit and goose liver terrine with beetroot and a touch of grated horseradish. Not my kind of flavours but everything was so light, delicate and perfectly matched that I cleared my plate in seconds. Then, the soup came – probably our favourite part of the show – creamy white asparagus soup with truffles, duck pastrami and confit egg yolk which altogether made the soup taste out-of-this-world!

As for main course the chef will propose one meat option and one vegetarian one every week. This time I definitely preferred the meat one – perfectly soft veal tenderloin with carrot puree, ginger, lovage and green asparagus tagliatelle. The meal was decorated with a tiny white carrot and sprinkled with pumpernickel breadcrumbs. All flavours went together great. The fish we tried is not a salmon (even though it looks like it) but a brown trout! Baked for 2 hours! Seems impossible but that’s what you get after slow baking in low temperature (40 degrees in this case). Brown trout fillet was served with black lentils, broad-leaved garlic sauce (strong, definite flavour) and foam made from… sour rye soup (!) which was supposed to make us feel festive on Easter. 🙂 However I guess I paid more attention to broad-leaved garlic than to sour rye soup.

And then, there was the dessert obviously. Despite the weather outside (rain, wind and cold as in November) I felt a summer breeze. A tasty panna cotta with rhubarb, rhubarb sorbet and crushed chocolate soil was definitely a thing for me! 🙂

La Rotisserie is not a cheap place and it can’t be one. It has a great chef, perfect location, pleasant interior design and great food – innovative but well-thought-of. Straight from the market lunch is in turn an opportunity to try Paweł Oszczyk’s culinary miracles at a reasonable price. Highly recommended!
