The conditions of our accommodation on this trip varied heavily. We’ve been on the road for the last 29 days, we changed countries and cities and stayed in 13 different hotels! In Dubai, Bangkok, Rangoon, Mandalay, Bagan, by Inle Lake, in Rangoon again, Jakarta, Bandung, Garut, Pangandaran and now in Yogyakarta. Sometimes just 1 night, sometimes 2 or 3. I have to admit that I’m already a bit tired of these constant relocations but I also perfected the art of unpacking the most important stuff and packing it up again.

The places we stayed in varied a lot. Some were luxurious like Pan Pacific in Singapore with the view of the magical Marina Bay Sands and the best breakfast in the world with all the Asian specialties, sweets that tasted like from the best confectionery and a whole palette of flavours. There were also den-like rooms in Burma (which weren’t cheap!): once with restoration going on in the room next to us and drilling works at 8 am. Once with a view of a wall and barbed wire or a junkyard on other occasion. That’s Burma! Such luxuries for the price of 40-70 dollars 😉

And then we arrived in Indonesia. In Jakarta we stayed at the absolutely charming Kosenda Hotel but in Bandung the guesthouse was quite out of the way, deserted and shady while in Pangandaran we got eaten alive by mosquitoes (somebody please scratch me!!). And then Łukasz found the hotel in Yogyakarta. We knew that we’re going to get there after a long and tiring trip – just try driving on Java and you’ll see what we mean! I called him mad when he told me he was going to book Hyatt! I thought we were going to pay a fortune for it! But no: PLN 250 for a night with breakfast included. Is it expensive? Yes, if you want to sleep in hostels for PLN 10 or 30. No, if you’re planning a stay at the hotel. In Poland you will get inferior conditions for the same price while in France for 60 euro you’ll find a den or… nothing. In Burma, sometimes 70 dollars was the minimum price for acceptable conditions with a bathroom, breakfast and in a good location. What now? We’re in!

Hyatt Regency Yogyakarta left us speechless after we saw its surrounding – a huge garden, beautiful flora and buildings that were supposed to look like Buddhist temples. Add swimming pools hidden in the bushes with little stone bridges, a small waterfall, different depths and a slide coming out of one of the ‘temples’. Amazing! Maks went mad for it instantly and so did we!

Beautiful interior, nice staff, varied breakfasts (they have regular bread! And that’s not something common in Asia;)) and a restaurant by the pool serving very tasty meals both Asian and European – including a pizza and pasta that really did the job! They even made tiramisu right! And they had children’s menu! What else could you possibly want?? A golf court at the hotel?? They have it too 😉

If you ever get to Yogya, especially in high season like we did, be sure to check out Hyatt! We stayed in quite a few hotels in our travelling life but this one surely is worthy of the TOP 5. The price is an additional advantage!

Here’s their website, but we booked our room through Booking.com! As usual. Time for us to go. We’re leaving Yogya and heading towards Bromo!
