Finally! Time to relax! After last few days of intensive sightseeing combined with many hours spent in a car (and on the night train) we decided to have a break and delightfully waste some time…
We arrived from Yerevan on the railway station in Tbilisi on Monday morning. Once again the trip was nice and comfy, with no delays, like on our way from Tbilisi to Yerevan. We didn’t feel like spending another night in Tbilisi since we spent our first weekend here and we’ll be back again before flying to Warsaw. Also, we got a bit tired after Yerevan – it’s an amazing and lively city, especially at night but on the other hand it’s still a fairly big city (even though it has only 1 million citizens) and while we travel, we like to have some rest from the concrete jungle. We wanted to get away and find a calm, green and relaxing place… Browsing the Internet, Łukasz came upon Schuchmann Wines Chateau and that’s where we decided to spent 2-3 days. In a Georgian vineyard.

a soothing view from our window 🙂
The vineyard is located near Telavi in Kakheti, a region in Georgia known predominantly for its wine production. Each town here, cultivates its own strain of vine named after the town, and pretty much every household produces wine for themselves, grape-based only with alcohol volume of 10-12%. More than 500 native strains of vine are cultivated in Georgia in general, with Kakheti being the absolute leader here. Schuchmann’s vineyard produces white (e.g. Rkasiteli) as well as red (Saperavi) and sparkling wines. Yesterday he tried some of those – it was delicious – and now we plan to see how the wine is produced.
Telavi is located approx. 90-100 km from Tbilisi. We took a taxi here. We bargained for the price at the railway station. Well, Łukasz did :). It was more economic than renting a car and safer after spending a night on the night train. We decided not to use marshrutkas anymore as Maks complained about “hurting stomach” while we used this kind of transportation before. After spending a night on a train, we didn’t want to give him more inconveniences either. One-way taxi ride cost us PLN 140, while a car for a day would be approx. PLN 180 with additional petrol costs. That’s a no-brainer!
We enjoyed the landscapes of Kakheti on our way. We already got to know with it last year. When we arrived at Schuchmann Wines Chateau it turned out to be a vineyard similar to French Chateaus in Saint Emilion region! Beautiful!
You can see a small part of the beautiful vineyard from your window as well as Caucasus mountains. Maks even spotted some “bits of snow” in the mountains. There’s also a playground in front of the house. Add wine and you’ll get a perfect spot to relax 🙂

a glass of wine with Caucasus view
I won’t tell you much more today since I’m quite tired with the trip. Therefore we mostly chilled out yesterday. I already know that the views from our windows are amazing, that it’s cool to eat lunch looking at Caucasus and even better to enjoy a glass of red Saperavi here (I guess that’s my favourite!).
One more thing, we’ve eaten the best khachapuri ever! 🙂 Tiny, but so delicate that we’ll probably eat it again today! And in a moment we’re going to Telavi which is located just 5 km from here… I have one more quest for today – test the Indestructible flashlight we got from VARTA. I already know, who’s going to do it! 🙂

khachapuri that melts in your mouth!
