Ellenborough Park is a place from a dream for everybody who likes a bit of luxury from time to time. And I believe that there are no people who do not want a bit of luxury from time to time. King size bed, fluffy nightgowns, big bathroom, aromatic cosmetics, beautiful area and amazing food. Idyllic. A place you think you know… from the movies. From the romantic ones where prince charming takes his love to places she has dreamed of. It wasn’t prince charming who took us there, but Visit Britain. It happened on our trip to Cotswolds while we were looking for most intriguing places and best flavours.
We were already after the delicious pudding night in Three Ways House Hotel i The Pudding Club, a visit to a local cheese specialist’s shop an amazing cooking lesson in Daylesford Cooking School and even a visit to Adam Henson’s farm. In Britain, Adam Henson is known for TV shows where he shows how the life and work on a farm looks like.
Being quite worn with the intensive schedule, in the evening we got to Ellenborough Park.

A large mansion located a bit off the beaten track. A perfect place to relax, enjoy the silence and peace. Add a big room with a giant canopy bed, a bathtub and fluffy nightgowns and you’ll feel ROYAL.
The residence itself was built in 1485. First historical mentions date back to 1533 and 1796. For ages the residence changed hands, was owned by various families, expanded and changed. The restoration of the buildings in order to turn them into a luxury hotel started in 2008 and took 3-4 years. In 2013 Ellenborough Park was awarded Europe’s 5th Best Luxury Hotel by Trip Advisor during Traveler’s Choice Awards.

Ellenborough Park is located on one of the highest points in Cotswolds, 10 minutes from Cheltenham. Peace, quietness and beautiful terrains make it a perfect starting point for all sorts of walking trips. The hotel and the area also have a lot to offer: SPA, a swimming pool, possibility to play golf or polo (haven’t I told you that it’s royal? :)), bow and arrow shooting. Unfortunately we didn’t have time for most of these. Our trip was a culinary one and therefore we focused on EATING! 🙂
There are two restaurants in the hotel serving different types of food: a Brasserie with a regular sort of everyday menu and a fine dining restaurant – The Beaufort Dining Room. The restaurant was awarded 3 AA rosettes, an award given to restaurants in Great Britain. 3 AA rosettes is quite an achievement – the restaurants are rated 0-5 and only one in 10 restaurants in Britain gets 1 star.
The chef – David Kelman served us a broad tasting menu and once again it turned out that Geat Britain has a lot to offer culinarily.
We started from a very delicate mushroom soup made from local Cotswolds mushrooms served with a cracker with cream cheese and marinated mushrooms. The we got interestingly served asparagus, sea perch – a popular local specialty and a delicious duck. All dishes with matching wine. When I say royal, it’s royal!

Ellenborough Park has everything any luxurious hotel needs. Beautiful, spacious rooms, large bathrooms, amazing grounds, magnificent views, peace and quietness. It also offers delicious cooking. The only thing I regret is the fact that we couldn’t stay for breakfast. I suppose it was as good as the rest. If you ever find yourself near London and will be in need of some luxury, you know where to look for it now.
