Finally!!! We made it! \ud83d\ude42 You just opened our sweetest culinary guide ever! Here you won’t find pizza, pasta, places for lunch or dinner, you won’t find shops with awesome Italian cured meat and aromatic cheeses – you will read about it next time. Now we’re taking you for ice cream. Loooots of ice cream and little bit of coffee! Is there anything better than Italian ice cream in everlasting city??? \ud83d\ude42 I don’t think so! Lots of great addresses where you can eat Italian gelati and a few where you have to drink espresso. We ate ice cream non stop for almost 3 days! We managed to go to 9 different ice-cream parlors in one day… and you know what? We still asked for more in the last one, because it was so delicious! \ud83d\ude42<\/p>\n

I couldn’t start differently \ud83d\ude42 La Romana is definitely my favorite place! We tried their ice cream for the first time in the fall of 2015, when we were staying in a hotel in front of La Romana ice-cream parlor on Via Venti Settembre 60. I could eat them in liters! This time I thought that maybe if we tried ice cream in different places, La Romana wouldn’t shine as bright… it still does! It’s so awesome, that even if it’s your last ice-cream parlor after a 19 kilometers long walk and 9 other ice cream places, you ask for more anyway. La Romana’s history started in 1947, but now it’s a modern place with a great interior design. Their locals can be found in many other places in Italy, but also in Vienna, Madrit or Valencia.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Amazing pistachio, nocciola (hazelnuts), addictive mascarpone al cafe con cioccolato fondente (coffee with chocolate), crumbles pralinato di mandorla, awesome sorbets – pear, banana, lemon. As a bonus, you get chocolate poured straight into ice cream cones. Yummy! Apart from ice cream – tempting desserts, cakes, even pancakes. And good news: La Romana has three places in Rome! We got ice cream at their places twice… on accident \ud83d\ude42<\/p>\n

2) FRIGIDARIUM<\/a> – Via del Governo Vecchio, 112<\/span>

As opposed to La Romana, it’s a tiny “hollow” on a nice street. Their ice cream were the best one that made us get down on our knees. Creamy, look like butter when it comes to their consistence. You should stand in line no matter how long it is. Brilliant mango will make you feel like you’re on a Thai beach; lemon will remind you of granita di limone from Positano; great coffee, coconut and nut Bacio.<\/p>\n

3) OLD BRIDGE<\/a> – Viale dei Bastioni Di Michelangelo, 5<\/span>

Many\u00a0of you recommended this place and many of you will get there, because Old Bridge can be found right next to Vatican’s walls. Vatican will definitely be on your to-see list, so you should get a snack here. My favorite – Mandorla e Pinoli, which is almonds and pine nuts. Fabulous! Apart from classic pistachio ice cream, you can find ricotta with pistachio here. Also cool! You can find their other places HERE<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Gelateria Del Teatro<\/strong> will get your attention with its window, where you can see how their confectioners work. We love places where we can watch what’s going on. Lots of flavors, some of them very interesting, like apple with cinammon, pumpkin with amaretti, ricotta with almonds and figs, rosemary with honey and lemon or cannolo siciliano flavored ice cream. They also sell their popsicles and tiny cannoli with pistachio, almonds or coconut… but I will recommend another place for cannoli – in another post \ud83d\ude42<\/p>\n

5) GROM <\/a><\/h3>\n

Grom is a retail chain (you can find out how to find them HERE<\/a>), but it’s a pretty decent one \ud83d\ude42 Their shop can be found near Panteon, which is definitely where you wanna go. As opposed to many Romanian ice cream shops, ice cream here is hidden and doesn’t look good. They taste good, but they’re not brilliant \ud83d\ude42 Very cool, fresh grapefruit, nice salted caramel and classics: pistacchio, nocciola, bacio.<\/p>\n

6) GIOLITTI<\/a> – Via degli Uffici del Vicario, 40<\/span><\/a><\/h3>\n

Giolitti<\/strong> is a classic. It’s existed for ages and everybody knows it. Huge choice of flavors and old-fashioned look. It was founded in 1900! Sometimes you feel like the time has stopped in here!<\/p>\n

We prefer modern places, but you just have to visit Giolitti \ud83d\ude42 Especially since it’s near Trevi Fountain. Not only will you eat ice cream here, but also ice cream desserts, popsicles and cookies.<\/p>\n

7) IL GELATO DI SAN CRISPINO<\/a> – Via della Panetteria, 42<\/span>

On a tiny little street near Trevi Fountain, there is this low-profile Il Gelato di San Crispino. There are no crowds, not a million of flavors. We will definitely remember this place. Christmas songs were playing there on a sunny day in the middle of March. The stuff were almost singing! \ud83d\ude42 You need to try their Spanish orange sorbet and lemon sorbet.<\/p>\n

8) daRe <\/a>– Via Bisagno, 19

A place for culinary freaks, because to get there, you will probably need to take a bus, but their ice cream is HEAVEN!!! Small place, but their flavors will bring you to your knees! Its gianduja, nocciola and 100% pistacchio break the system. You can see they use great products, such as Valhrona chocolate. Chocolate with orange was pretty interesting.<\/p>\n

9) NEVE DI LATTE<\/a> – Via Luigi Poletti, 6<\/span>

Neve Di Latte is a place for ice cream freaks. Not in the centre, not so close to listed buildings. You need to walk a little to get there. But the prize is worth it! Take pistacchio di Bronte, mango and nut ice cream with cocoa. Fabulous! Huge plus: they give you water with lemon for free if you buy ice cream – it may come in handy, not just on a warm day \ud83d\ude42<\/p>\n

10) GUTILLA<\/a> – Via Nomentana, 267-277<\/span><\/h3>\n

Gutilla is a small place with a big choice. Apart from regular ice cream cones, they also sell funny ice cream balls on sticks, popsicles, desserts, cakes. Beautiful exposition and delicious ice cream. If you’re in Dare or La Romana on Via Venti Settembre, you can just walk here \ud83d\ude42<\/p>\n

Another retail chain on our list \ud83d\ude42 We visited Venchi when we were in Verona last summer. We saw at least three of their places in Rome, but the one on Via Del Corso 335 is the best. You will be passing it while walking to the impressive Piazza del Popolo. Venchi on Via del Corso is famous for a wall with pouring chocolate! Take your kids with you! \ud83d\ude42 The pictures doesn’t reflect its charm, so you need to see it with your own eyes. Lots of chocolates, pralines and great, very creamy ice cream. Cool mango, great pistacchio and awesome nougat with crispy toppings.<\/p>\n

It’s far from everywhere, the place is small, their ice cream is out of this world! We needed to cross half the town one day to get there. I think you will find the most oddities here. Apple with grapes in wine, or gorgonzola or Castelmagno cheese ice cream. The stuff will give you advice and tell you about used products – you can see they know what they’re doing. It’s a place for foodies, with lots of awards in Italy.<\/p>\n

While eating lunch in one of the restaurants recommended to us by locals, some Italian man overheard us talking about ice cream. He criticised some of our choices, some of them he said were for tourists and, of course, he gave us his recommendations. He sent us to Gelateria dei Gracchi on Via dei Gracchi 272 – locals buy ice cream there \ud83d\ude42 It’s a short walk from Piazza del Popolo… but mind you, you will run into another La Romana, so you may not get anywhere else \ud83d\ude09 Dei Gracchi have three places in Rome – addresses can be found here<\/a>.<\/p>\n

14) FATAMORGANA <\/a><\/h3>\n

While on The Roman Food Tour<\/strong> in Prati, after delicious pizza in Pizzarium and cured meat at Pactiotto’s, our guide took us for ice cream in Fatamorgana. They were the best ice cream in Rome. Delicious! We fell in love with Mandorle Tostate, which means roasted almonds. Have you ever come across such flavor in Poland? \ud83d\ude42 I will be looking for it! And… ice cream sushi! Fatamorgana has a few places in Rome, so find out if they’re close to you \ud83d\ude42<\/p>\n

Ufff!!! That was a lot!!! \ud83d\ude42 Whoever eats everything, just like we did, can be named the biggest ice cream eater ever! \ud83d\ude42\u00a0There were also places we had on our list but didn’t get to: Gelarte (it was closed) and Gelateria Fassi – I know it’s the oldest ice cream parlor in Rome, but we had to choose between classic and modern place (Otaleg) on our last day, so we chose modern \ud83d\ude42<\/p>\n

\u0141ukasz drank espresso with ice cream because he didn’t want to have too much sweet flavor in his mouth! Italian coffee almost always does its job, but because of the fact that we had limited time, we only went to the most legendary cafes.<\/p>\n

COFFEE PLACES:<\/strong><\/h3>\n

1) SANT EUSTACCHIO IL CAFFE<\/a><\/strong><\/h3>\n

Classic place that’s existed since the 30’s. \u0141ukasz fell in love with Arabica, but you could choose various kinds of coffee, croissants and other bakings. It’s a good place to buy a present for someone.<\/p>\n

2) CAFFE TAZZA D\u2019ORO <\/strong><\/a><\/h3>\n

Tazza d\u2019Oro can be found right next to the Pantheon. Go grab some coffee here while sightseeing. Tazza d’Oro is famous for offering coffees from around the world, so it’s perfect for coffee lovers \ud83d\ude42 There’s one of Venchi places in front of it \ud83d\ude42<\/p>\n

3) ANTICO CAFFE GRECO<\/a><\/h3>\n

Antico Caffe Greco is another classic and one of the most famous cafes in Rome. You’ll find it on Via Condotti, right next to one of the best known places in town – next to the Spanish Steps. It feels like back in the day, there are a lot of guests, but if you like coffee, you need to get at least a small espresso here. The cafe was founded in 1760, Goethe and Byron used to come here. Great company, isn’t it? \ud83d\ude42<\/p>\n
