I remember a situation from a few years back when we were thinking where to go for a weekend with our friends and somebody suggested \u0141\u00f3d\u017a. \u2018\u0141\u00f3d\u017a?\u2019 \u2013 somebody asked looking unpleasantly surprised \u2013 \u2018What\u2019s there to do???\u2019. Someone else added \u2018There\u2019s really no better place to go for a weekend than \u0141\u00f3d\u017a?!?!\u2019. Back then I fought for \u0141\u00f3d\u017a\u2019s honour, not necessarily for the trip to the city. Because for me \u0141\u00f3d\u017a has been an interesting place for quite a while now. With great walks around the city, summer nights on ul. Piotrkowska and as we learned now \u2013 also for a weekend with a kid!!<\/p>\n

If you\u2019re coming to \u0141\u00f3d\u017a from Warsaw it\u2019s easy by both train and car. I often choose PKP when I\u2019m coming for a business meeting that will last several hours \u2013 the train gets me there in two hours and in the meantime I can work, read, get prepared. We prefer car when it comes to family trips \u2013 we like being independent. We can travel quickly, the weather is not an issue and Maks is happy because there\u2019s plenty of space for a bag with his favourite bricks. This time we went to \u0141\u00f3d\u017a with our brand new MINI Clubman<\/strong><\/a> which we lately tested. We packed the bags for the weekend, Maks\u2019 little bike and drove away!<\/p>\n

The plan was to start the day in \u0141\u00f3d\u017a with a walk through ul. Piotrkowska where we can see all the figure-statues such as Tuwim\u2019s bench or Mi\u015b Uszatek, but unfortunately the weather took it hard on us! It was raining a little bit throughout the whole day so we gave up on long walks and moved around with our car. So, what can you do on a weekend in \u0141\u00f3d\u017a when it\u2019s raining?<\/p>\n

Catch these few ideas! Perfect for kids and adults! For snowy and rainy times but also for spring and heat!<\/p>\n

PLACES WORTH SEEING:<\/strong><\/h3>\n

1) SE \u2013 MA \u2013 FOR ANIMATION MUSEUM<\/a> \u2013 ul. Targowa 1\/3 (entrance on ul. Tuwima 54)<\/strong><\/h3>\n

 <\/p>\n

This was probably the best shot \u2013 a perfect place for kids and adults. The animation museum is located in the Se-ma-for studios and is the only place like this in Poland. <\/strong> I have to admit that I haven\u2019t expected it to be so fascinating! I think we might have even been more fascinated than Maks was, especially considering the fact that we knew many of these cartoons such as Uszatek or Colargol from before! The exhibition is really impressive, especially with all the tiny details made to film a few-minute long episode! The most fascinating thing however was the guide\u2019s story about the origin of specific animation in Se-ma-for.<\/p>\n

The most popular ones included Mi\u015b Uszatek, Colargol or a more recent Parauszek. Did you know that it takes 3 months to make one 10-minute long episode of Parauszek??? One second of the film is as much as 24 shots and there\u2019s only 5-6 seconds of each cartoon being made on one day??!!? Hard to imagine, isn\u2019t it?<\/p>\n

In 2006 Se-ma-for also made Peter and the Wolf which won an Oscar for Best Animated Short Film. The scenography for the movie took 150 sqm and cost 2 million pounds! There was 8 models of Peter alone with 20 different heads \u2013 each with different face \ud83d\ude42<\/p>\n

It\u2019s definitely a memorable trip! It\u2019s worth giving a shot even if you come to \u0141\u00f3d\u017a without your child! \ud83d\ude42 During weekends it\u2019s open from 10 to 5 pm. The entrance to the museum can be found on ul. Tuwima \u2013 you can drive up to the museum in your car \u2013 there\u2019s plenty of parking space on weekends. 2) EXPERYMENTARIUM SCIENCE CENTRE<\/a> – ul. Drewnowska 58 (Manufaktura)<\/strong><\/h3>\n

Maks absolute favourite during our trip to \u0141\u00f3d\u017a<\/strong>. Lately he\u2019s been into all sorts of scientific experiments, touching, pouring, fooling around, he even goes to classes like that in the kindergarten. It was a must!<\/p>\n

We started with a walk through a dark Cosmic Tunnel with a bridge that looked a bit shaky \u2013 Maks was a bit scared but later on he wanted to get back there. The cosmic tunnel is kind of amazing because the bridge does not move at all, it\u2019s you who feels it\u2019s moving!<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Up next there are more rooms and more play with your senses. Touching, looking, illusions and changes. Interactive display objects show how does magnetism, dynamics and optics work. It\u2019s interesting and sometimes funny \u2013 when we change our silhouettes for instance or combine two face into one. We asked Maks what did he like the most during our trip to \u0141\u00f3d\u017a and he was 100% sure it was Experymentarium.<\/p>\n

It\u2019s open from 10 am to 10 pm Mon-Sat and 10 am to 9 pm on Sunday. In order to get to the Experymentarium you need to park on Manufaktura\u2019s parking lot \u2013 on weekends it might get a little crowded but you\u2019ll surely find a spot. 3) MUSEUM OF THE FACTORY <\/a>\u2013 ul. Drewnowska 58 (Manufaktura) <\/strong><\/h3>\n

I have to admit one thing first: Maks was bored here which made it impossible for us to see the museum in peace! What a pity! I\u2019ve been here for the second time because I really like places like that \u2013 I like reading about the history, about the times that have past, watching pictures from the old times and imagining industrial \u0141\u00f3d\u017a from many years before. Unfortunately Maks (and \u0141ukasz too :)) had a different opinion about the museum and we quickly left the place! However if you like history and want to learn something about \u0141\u00f3d\u017a, it\u2019s the best place especially with the tickets being so cheap (adults \u2013 PLN 6, kids \u2013 PLN 5)! \ud83d\ude42<\/p>\n

WHERE TO EAT IN \u0141\u00d3D\u0179???<\/strong><\/h3>\n

 <\/p>\n

Sightseeing is one thing and eating is another! \ud83d\ude42 What are the best places to eat in \u0141\u00f3d\u017a?? After several stays, one of which was during the Festival of Good Taste during which we visited between 25 and 30 restaurants in 3 days we have our favourite spots!<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Lokal<\/a> is surely one of them. Lately Sp\u00f3\u0142dzielnia<\/a> as well (it used to be bad, but around May or June last year they changed the chef and now it\u2019s good!). Also Lavash<\/a>. All the abovementioned places are located on ul. Piotrkowska or near it so you best park on one of the perpendicular streets and have a short walk. If the weather is good, it\u2019s worth going for a walk through ul. Piotrkowska after lunch! We parked on ul. Moniuszki. Only a few steps away from Armenian Lavash<\/strong> which was our choice for lunch this time.<\/p>\n

It\u2019s a place with a vibe which and everybody who\u2019s been to Georgia and\/or Armenia will be delighted. Different, unusual with Caucasian food. A place with a soul. Just remember to book a table because it\u2019s usually quite busy!!! \ud83d\ude42 Try ajar khachapuri for instance (with egg, a bit different than in Georgia but still very tasty) or a filling meaty lahmajoun. When it comes to main courses, we loved the spicy buglama \u2013 mutton with aubergine and chickpeas. We thought a bit about our trip to Armenia and moved along!<\/p>\n

There was no more room in our bellies for dinner in Lokal<\/strong>, even though we dreamed about their cuisine. Their menu is full of tempting options. B sure to check it out! You may also check Tubajka<\/strong> <\/a> – a family shop-cafe! We haven\u2019t been there for a while but last year in the summer they served really tasty desserts! But beware: after lunch in Lavash it might be difficult because you will leave with full bellies!;)<\/p>\n

Our new MINI Clubman<\/strong><\/a> worked great on our trip to \u0141\u00f3d\u017a. Despite my love for trains we were happy to go by car this time \u2013 we didn\u2019t get wet and managed to see quite a lot!!!<\/p>\n

I already told you before<\/a> that it\u2019s not the first MINI I had the pleasure of driving. Ours have been with us for a few years already! \u0141ukasz calls it a go-kart but I love it \u2013 small, smart easy to fit anywhere \ud83d\ude09<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Despite my love to our own I have to admit that giving away the new one wasn\u2019t easy! \ud83d\ude42 It\u2019s really spacious and comfortable (6 doors! Finally no need to do acrobatics in order to place the car seat in the back) and what\u2019s perfect for those travelling with children \u2013 it comes with a much larger trunk with additional compartment (360 litres!). This way two suitcases (Maks needs his own obviously!!) and a bike were super easy to fit in! If you\u2019re the type who pack a lot in (we\u2019ve got this kind of friends too, wink, wink!:)) there\u2019s plenty of space left! And if you need even more, you can always fold the back seat…<\/p>\n

As for the less functional and more visual aspects I really like the back of new MINI Clubman! It’s different than mine and I have to admit that it looks modern and nice! \ud83d\ude42 Maks love the fact that when you lock the car a shiny logo appears on the street next to it ;))) A small thing but magic for a kid!!! \ud83d\ude42<\/p>\n
