If you follow us on Facebook too<\/a> you probably already know the beginning of this story. If not, then I will explain in \u0141ukasz\u2019 words, because it was him who put our impressions on the FB profile:<\/p>\n

\u2018Imagine a day when you\u2019re looking for restaurants to make a TOP 10 pizzas in Warsaw list and first you end up in Il Caminetto where you have one of the worst pizzas ever…<\/p>\n

… then you go to Medicover with your sick child which makes the eyes like the puss from Shrek does and asks you to give him a ham pizza. And you don\u2019t know whether you should risk going to an unknown place in old Ochota or stop by a well known Ave Pizza… you risk… you park your car in a dark and calm alley in Ochota… you walk a completely deserted and a bit depressive street and suddenly you see quite a cosy place with several tables, a couple having a romantic dinner a solitary American sitting in at another table with calm Italian sixties-like music playing in the background.

..you walk into a cellar, where you find another room and an open kitchen, on the stairs you pass an Italian-looking chef and smiling automatically say \u2018scusa\u2019 to which he responds \u2018Sei Italiano?\u2019. To that you respond in your best Italian you remember from Italian lessons with Alessandra Tomasello from XXXVII High School in Warsaw: \u2018No, ma ho studiato per sette anni\u2019…<\/span><\/p>\n

Turns out that this is Marco from Lazio, Italy a friend of the owner who is Italian to and also a chef who\u2019s been working here for 1.5 years… you order 2 pizzas and gnocchi… you get the pizza, have a bit, the second one and suddenly you\u2019re close to crying from happiness…. you see Natalia smiling widely and you know what that means… Marco comes to ask how is the pizza (in Italian) and you almost shout \u2018Marco questa pizza per me e la migliore pizza a Varsavia\u2019 and you use happy eyes of a and inconspicuous, thin and super-friendly Italian who keeps repeating \u2018Grazie, grazie, grazie, grazie\u2019…

We ordered two pizzas in Al Capone \u2013 a Margherita<\/strong> with ham for Maks (PLN 20) and a Capricciosa<\/strong> (PLN 30) for \u0141ukasz. First we got Maks\u2019 pizza with a lot of ham, dough perfectly thin in the middle and tomato sauce which smelled like Italy in the summer and real fior di latte nicely melted on the pizza. We only winced thinking of the pizza we had a few hours earlier which came with a weirdly thin cheese layer. Here, every bite was a real feast. Maks usually leaves the sides of the pizza so I took them, dipped them in olive oil and ate them all feeling great.<\/p>\n

Then we got the hero of the evening \u2013 Capricciosa. With fior di latte, tomatoes, mushrooms, artichokes, olives, salami picante, prosciutto crudo and an egg. And extra rucola. A whole lot of delicious things! Super tasty and incredible! \u0141ukasz didn\u2019t say anything, he just devoured it piece by piece. In the end he almost shouted: \u2018Marco, questa pizza e la migliore!\u2019.<\/p>\n

Al Capone\u2019s menu includes only pizza, antipasti, salads and desserts. We also managed to find some gnocchi. I got gnocchi with gorgonzola and rucola. The gnocchi were really tender but not too soft. They weren\u2019t smearing your whole tongue and you couldn\u2019t taste the potatoes in them (\u0141ukasz hates it), the sauce was fragrant, however after 3 pieces of pizza it might have been a bit too heavy… But I should have known that \u2013 it\u2019s gorgonzola after all! \ud83d\ude42<\/p>\n

In the end, we had to try the Italian classic – tiramisu<\/strong> (PLM 14). That\u2019s one of our litmus papers when it comes to Italian restaurants! After the pizza and gnocchi our expectations were extremely high! However the tiramisu had a bit too much of the biscuit part for us even though the cream was perfect (tender, velvety, truly from mascarpone). We would definitely change the proportions.<\/p>\n

But who cares about tiramisu when you can get a calzone with Nutella! \ud83d\ude42 A little gift from the the chef for us and the guests at the table next to us. Calzone of the size of a croissant filled with hot Nutella. So simple, yet so good!!! And you know what? This pizza dough tasted equally good with fior di latte and tomato sauce and with Nutella!<\/p>\n

We left Al Capone full, happy and satisfied! And we really had some bad times lately! Everywhere we went, something went wrong! And suddenly, on a Sunday evening, we unexpectedly discovered an Italian paradise! \ud83d\ude42<\/p>\n
