We love spontaneous weekend trips… There’s nothing better than a quick decision, clothes thrown into the suitcase and an immediate departure! Preferably with friends: If you find friends who say: ‘Cool, let’s go, we haven’t been there for a while’ after a short Facebook conversation then you know it’s going o be a good weekend. Like ours \ud83d\ude42<\/p>\n

We spent approx. 24 hours in Kazimierz. I won’t tell you how many times have we been here since I lost count long time ago. We come here at least once a year, sometimes more often. We love Kazimierz in the summer but I guess we like it even more in the autumn (no crowds) or winter when it looks absolutely spectacular, covered in snow. Love it! Good food and slow walks with \u0141ukasz or \u0141ukasz and Maks who’s breathless after climbing Three Crosses Hill or visiting the castle. If you walk Kazimierz through and still have some time, check the gorges, Mi\u0119\u0107mierz or take a boat to Janowiec… I just realised that we haven’t been there for a while! Maybe we’ll give it another try in Spring?<\/p>\n

A weekend spent this way is more charming than one spent at home. Almost always. At home there’s always SOMETHING TO DO. Always. Here, you only need to go for a walk, eat, talk and be yourself. Sounds like a perfect plan, doesn’t it? \ud83d\ude42 And if you manage to come in good weather (like we did!), I guarantee you will return with your batteries recharged!<\/p>\n

We return to Kazimierz quite often and we have places we always go to. We usually sleep in Vincent’s guesthouse <\/a> (unfortunately our decision was so spontaneous that there were no places left) – we love this place and it’s one of our favourites when it comes to magical places in Poland<\/a>. We always go to Kuchnia i Wino<\/strong> for lunch or dinner (did it this time too!) and to Cafe Faktoria<\/strong><\/a> for hot chocolate! A trip to Kazimierz without going to these places simply doesn’t count. \ud83d\ude09<\/p>\n

But we wouldn’t be ourselves if we didn’t try something new, even during a weekend or just a 24h trip! This time we decided to visit AKUKU restaurant<\/a>. We’ve been there, in a hurry, 2 years ago, right after the place opened. Now we’re going to check if it’s actually a place worth eating in. AKUKU can be found on ul. Krakowska, the same one where Kuchnia i Wino<\/strong> and Cafe Faktoria<\/strong> are. I guess I can say it’s the tastiest street in town! Akuku is a really cosy place with small rooms but plenty of tables – both on ground level and on second floor. There’s also a small children’s corner – always an advantage!<\/p>\n

We already know which soup we’re going to take since it ‘says hello’ to us from the blackboard outside – sweet potato cream soup with chorizo! Sounds delicious! We sit at the table and browse the menu. It’s not really inventive but quite broad and everybody will be able to find something suitable here. Our start turns out to be quite one-track-minded – all four of us get a sweet potato cream soup with chorizo (PLN 14).<\/strong> The soup is filling, warming, even though the flavour is a bit weak – we miss the sweetish potato flavour. Fried chorizo slices are perfectly spicy, however I would suggest chopping them into smaller bits so that the flavours combine better.<\/p>\n

After the soup we all order different things. Our friends go for goat’s cheese baked with Parma ham, pepperoni pepper and cranberry and rose sauce<\/strong> (PLN 28) and a perch pike in crayfish sauce with celery puree<\/strong> (PLN 52). \u0141ukasz decides to take a goose leg with potatoes and carrot<\/strong> (PLN 56) and I go for a traditional combination of a pork chop, potatoes and warm beets<\/strong> (PLN 29) which I’m going to share with Maks. The meats work much better than the fish. Goose is soft, juicy and served with tasty sides – both the potatoes and the carrots are great and \u0141ukasz eats it all to the very last drop of sauce. A pork chop is as good as a pork chop gets. Same goes for cooked potatoes and warm beets – a traditional lunch done the good way – both me and Maks enjoy. The perch pike is definitely the worst player on the table – looks like it’s overfried because the fish is dry and not so tasty. It also looks the worst – guess they wanted to keep it modern, but smothered sauces and puree doesn’t look all that appetising. Goat’s cheese works quite well, however a slice of toast bread is a total no-no. We would prefer to have a locally baked bread.<\/p>\n

We’re all full, me too, even though I gave Maks half of my meal. Despite that, we decide to try one dessert which sounds really original – flamb\u00e9 prunes with fig sauce and nuts <\/strong> (PLN 18). A perfect shot. Sweet, but fruity at the same time. Perfect for autumn, fragrant, interesting. Hot prunes come with vanilla ice cream and the combination works super-tasty!<\/p>\n

Akuku us a place for a casual but tasty lunch in Kazimierz. These aren’t mind-blowing flavours but the meals will leave you with your bellies full and feeling that you chose a good place for lunch. PS. Just don’t order the perch-pike \ud83d\ude09<\/p>\n
