Wales already tempted us in October 2014 when we came back stunned with Scotland, especially its northern wilderness which is definitely one of the wildest parts of Europe. Back then, we already knew that we need to see if it’s as magical in Wales?? Is autumn there as incredible and comes with as many breathtaking views? Is it worth it?<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
Your task is an easier one – you don’t have to check it out because we’ve done it for you! IT IS WORTH IT! \ud83d\ude42 Especially in the autumn when Wales shimmers with thousands of colours and makes you wanna look at the trees, leaves, orange hills and green woods forever. It’s worth it if you like to see and discover new places, tourists-free, with no souvenir stands and queues. Here, you will find nature in its pure form, charming little towns where only the wind roams after 9 pm and where fishermen leave to catch some fresh fish in the morning. There was plenty of places that made us fall in love and I guess there’s more coming since we’re staying here until Saturday. We’ll surely write about them \ud83d\ude42<\/p>\n

But for now, come and check the wide sandy beach in Tenby, take a walk by the cliffs in the smallest town of Great Britain, check out Lynn y Fan Fah lake or try Elan Valley to see how amazing Wales is! It’s not only amazing because of the colours but also because of the peace, quiet and melancholy. A place you go to to find a refuge from the world… a place where you’re alone with your thoughts walking through the wilderness during the day and in the evening you walk the deserted streets of small towns looking for a cosy bar or a restaurant to hide from the cold wind and get warm eating sticky toffee pudding. It’s a perfect place to go before Halloween – you’re constantly wondering if there’s a ghost or two waiting for you in one of the mysterious castles.<\/p>\n

Is the second part of October good enough to go and visit the place? Won’t it be too cold? How about the rain? Won’t it result in us being ill and having runny nose? Hope not. I won’t tell you that October is hot because you guys know a thing or two about geography \ud83d\ude42 It’s 10-15 degrees a day. Sometimes sunny, sometimes rainy. In my case it’s warm jacket, scarf and beanie weather but still compatible with walks and sightseeing. For the British people it’s almost summer… On Saturday we saw a girl on the beach – she was wearing a light dress, no tights and ate an ice cream! \u0141ukasz adjusts to the locals and wears shorts even when the temperature drops to 8 degrees. Madman!<\/p>\n

HOW TO GET TO WALES?<\/sup><\/strong><\/h3>\n <\/p>\n

There’s several ways to do it and the one we’ve tried is not necessarily the best. We flew to London from Warsaw via Wizzair – a short flight from Chopin airport to London-Luton where we rented a car. That’s one way to do it. There are always cheap flights to London available, from pretty much all Polish airports, almost every day. It’s a good idea but London is pretty far from Wales.<\/p>\n
Wales is much closer to Bristol. Ryanair flies there directly from Modlin for instance. You can also try and search for flights to Welsh capital – Cardiff from other Polish cities. Reportedly there used to be direct flights to Cardiff from Cracow.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
Renting a car is necessary to get to all the beautiful places. Highly recommended. We usually use Europcar and we did so this time.<\/p>\n

WHAT TO DO AND WHERE TO STAY IN WALES?<\/strong><\/h3>\n <\/p>\n
Wales is a diverse country and even though there’s still several days upon us, I already know that it won’t be enough to see all we would like to. With the car rented, it’s worth visiting every castle, valley, beach and port town you like. The best way is to divide the trip into separate sections, each devoted to one of regions of Wales such as South Wales, Mid Wales or North Wales.<\/p>\n
You cannot miss the impressive St. David’s cathedral, castle ruins in places like Carew or beautiful landscapes in one of the three national parks: Breacon Beacons, Snowdonia or Pembrokeshire. Deserted beaches are quite stunning too, as well as the wilderness that makes you think of books such as “Wuthering Heights”. We’ll write more about what to see soon! \ud83d\ude42<\/p>\n
Wales in October is also a kids magnet because the Halloween preparations are in full swing! You will find Halloween gadgets everywhere – starting with witch hats and artificial teeth and ending with pumpkin and skull rings and a whole lot of scary-looking candy. Our Maks was absolutely in heaven!<\/p>\n

When it comes to accommodation it’s best to plan your trip first and then choose 2-4 hotels as starting points if you’re coming for a few days. We started with Saundersfoot and St. Brides<\/a> hotel – it’s close to Tenby. Then we stayed at Metropole<\/a> in Llandrindod Wells and visited Breacon Beacons and Elan Valley. We also stayed in Monachty<\/a> located on the coast in charming Aberaeron.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n

WHAT TO EAT IN WALES? <\/strong><\/h3>\n <\/p>\n
Like Scotland or Ireland, Wales is a good destination if you’re into fish and seafood. In many cities of Wales people eat it from dawn till dusk and that’s the ideal situation for a fish-loving psycho such as \u0141ukasz. Start with scrambled eggs and salmon or smoked haddock with poached eggs for breakfast. Or with smoked herrings like we did today. Lunch? If you’re feeling fancy, go for scallops, oysters or some kind of fish. If you’re in a hurry, there’s always fish and chips available served with tatar sauce or sprinkled with vinegar.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
Fortunately, there’s plenty to try for those who are not into fish that much – steaks, lamb, mutton and burgers. On one hand you will find simple stuff such as beef pie with mashed potatoes but on the other some more sophisticated meals. Everything in Wales (and Great Britain too probably) comes with green peas! Even when we ordered a pizza for Maks from the kids’ menu, it came with green peas! \ud83d\ude42<\/p>\n

Wales was yet another destination were we tested Bank Pekao S.A.’s multi currency card<\/a><\/strong> which I wrote about HERE<\/a>. We used it to pay for hotels, food in restaurants, at the petrol station but also for the small stuff such as snacks, drinks and something for Maks. We also used the card when we withdrew the money from ATM’s. We needed cash to buy tickets for one of the Welsh castles and to equip Maks with some Halloween gadgets which he’d be happy to die for! \ud83d\ude42 All transactions were cleared in GBP and we didn’t lose any money on currency conversions and commissions during payments. We did the same in Positano<\/a> where we paid in Euros, we do the same when we pay in PLN in Poland. And we’re using one card only \ud83d\ude42<\/p>\n <\/p>\n
