I can&#8217;t say that food in Indonesia is bad or anything. It&#8217;s tasty and alright &#8211; you can eat an acceptable <strong><em>nasi goreng<\/em><\/strong> (fried rice with vegetables) or <strong><em>mie goreng<\/em><\/strong> (fried noodles), sometimes also <strong><em>kwetiau goreng <\/em><\/strong>(fried flat noodles) or <em><strong>tahu goreng<\/strong><\/em> with chilli sauce (fried tofu) pretty much everywhere but you can&#8217;t compare it with the culinary paradise we fell in love with in Singapore.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>I promised you a second part of the culinary guide to the city and here it is! \ud83d\ude42 <strong>This time we&#8217;ll show you one place only, but with lots of delicious meals and snacks you should try in Singapore!<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The name of the place is <strong>Maxwell Food Centre<\/strong>, located close to Chinatown &#8211; just walk South Bridge Road to the crossing with Maxwell Road and you&#8217;ll easily find this huge food court! Despite the crowds it became our favourite one. It was quite peaceful, not that loud and not that sultry! You&#8217;ll find a few rows of stands at Maxwell, each of them with lots of delicacies, mostly Chinese and local, Singaporean. You know what they say: when in Rome, act like the Romans do. \ud83d\ude42<\/p>\n<p>We&#8217;ve been to <strong>Maxwell Food Centre<\/strong> twice &#8211; on our first visit we were already quite full, quite tired, Maks was not in the mood, so we got a quickie. Second visit took place in our last moments in Singapore so we treated it as our last supper &#8211; we ate, tasted and indulged ourselves until the very last moment before we went to the hotel to leave for the airport&#8230;<\/p>\n<h3><\/h3>\n<h3>What to eat in Singapore?<\/h3>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3><strong>HAINANESE CHICKEN RICE<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_18002\" style=\"width: 650px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-18002\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-large wp-image-18002\" src=\"https:\/\/www.tasteaway.pl\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/02\/Hainanese-Chicken-Rice-ma\u0142a-porjca-za-35-najlepiej-w-Tian-Tian-640x427.jpg\" alt=\"Singapore, what to eat in Singapore, food courts, Maxwell Food Centre, Hainanese Chicken Rice\" width=\"640\" height=\"427\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-18002\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Hainanese Chicken Rice &#8211; small portion for 3,5 $, best in Tian Tian<\/p><\/div>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>One of the local classics which was recommended by a person who lives in Singapore permanently. <strong>Hainanese Chicken Rice<\/strong> is a super-simple meal: rice and boiled chicken with a nice delicate sauce or chilli sauce if you want. Tian Tian is the best place to order <em><strong>hainanese<\/strong><\/em> &#8211; you&#8217;ll know it after you see the queue! Also, a perfect meal for a kid. They&#8217;re quite funny &#8211; I expected a meatball texture, whereas they are a bit chewy and quite solid. Nothing special in my opinion. \u0141ukasz loved it though. At Maxwell I found <strong>Sunto Gyoza<\/strong> that served fried dumplings with shrimps and chicken. 6 pieces for 4 dollars, 8 for 6 (Singapore dollars of course!). Tasty with cool filling, a bit too fried though with hard dough. I prefer fried ones at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tasteaway.pl\/2014\/04\/23\/warszawa-chinskie-harbinskie-pierozki\/\" target=\"_blank\">harbi\u0144skie on Al. Wilanowska in Warsaw<\/a> &#8211; if you haven&#8217;t tried them, check it out one day. Easier than going to Singapore \ud83d\ude42<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3><strong>KWAY TEOW<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_18008\" style=\"width: 650px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-18008\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-large wp-image-18008\" src=\"https:\/\/www.tasteaway.pl\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/02\/kway-teow-nasza-nowa-mi\u0142o\u015b\u0107-makaronowa-35-640x427.jpg\" alt=\"Singapore, what to eat in Singapore, food courts, Maxwell Food Centre, Hainanese Chicken Rice, Kway Teow, Oyster Cake, Oyster Omelette \" width=\"640\" height=\"427\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-18008\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">kway teow &#8211; our new noodle love (3,5$)<\/p><\/div>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Kway Teow is a noodle dish popular in Singapore, Malaysia, sometimes Indonesia and our newest Asian love at the same time! The pasta itself is great &#8211; flat, very delicate, melt-in-your-mouth. Served with meat, soy sauce and chilli it tastes epic! It&#8217;s a pity that we only found it in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tasteaway.pl\/2015\/02\/01\/welcome-dzakarta-brzydko-ale-jak-smacznie\/\" target=\"_blank\">Jakarta<\/a> in Indonesia.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3><strong>OYSTER OMELETTE<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_18009\" style=\"width: 650px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-18009\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-large wp-image-18009\" src=\"https:\/\/www.tasteaway.pl\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/02\/omlet-z-ostrygami-51-640x427.jpg\" alt=\"Singapore, what to eat in Singapore, food courts, Maxwell Food Centre, Hainanese Chicken Rice, Kway Teow, Oyster Cake, Oyster Omelette \" width=\"640\" height=\"427\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-18009\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">omelette with oysters &#8211; 5$<\/p><\/div>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>An omelette with Oysters? Why not! Perfectly delicate, served with essential spicy sauce. Completely different than an omelette with ham or spinach. They used to serve something similar in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tasteaway.pl\/2014\/09\/29\/kuchnia-tajska-jakiej-nie-znacie-myotai\/\" target=\"_blank\">My\u2019o\u2019tai<\/a> in Warsaw &#8211; an omelette with mussels which was very similar to the one at <strong>Maxwell Food Centre<\/strong>. It&#8217;s not surprising &#8211; Hamid Trisno, the chef at My&#8217;o&#8217;tai comes from Singapore.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3><strong>OYSTER CAKE<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_18010\" style=\"width: 650px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-18010\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-large wp-image-18010\" src=\"https:\/\/www.tasteaway.pl\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/02\/oyster-cake-15-640x427.jpg\" alt=\"Singapore, what to eat in Singapore, food courts, Maxwell Food Centre, Hainanese Chicken Rice, Kway Teow, Oyster Cake, Oyster Omlette \" width=\"640\" height=\"427\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-18010\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">oyster cake &#8211; 1,5$<\/p><\/div>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>You will find tasty <strong><em>oyster cakes<\/em><\/strong> at Maxwell Fuzhou Oyster Cake stand. A hot, savoury cake filled with nicely seasoned stuffing. Can you feel the oysters? One sells little cakes, balls and rolls described as coconut and cassava starch, cassava starch with sweet filling etc. We buy two. Cassava starch cakes are very floury, they taste a little better with coconut, but it&#8217;s mango with coconut milk that does the job.<\/p>\n<p>As you can imagine, we order it out of yearning for Thai <em><strong>mango sticky rice<\/strong><\/em>. I&#8217;m a bit confused with the price &#8211; 3,5 dollars for a dessert? For this price, you can easily buy lunch at Maxwell! The confusion is gone when we get a huge pile of mango sprinkled with coconut milk and crushed ice. We haven&#8217;t tried the famous black pepper crab and chilli crab which are very popular among Singapore food courts. Even though everybody told us to try them!! \ud83d\ude09 We didn&#8217;t have enough time to go to East Coast Park and see local <em>hawker centres<\/em> including East Coast Seafood Centre which we really wanted to see. Such a shame, but on the other hand, it&#8217;s good to have reasons to get back! \ud83d\ude42<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>We&#8217;re slowly getting close to the end of our journey: we&#8217;ve seen plenty of beautiful and amazing things, but I&#8217; sure that&#8217;s it&#8217;s Singapore that is THE ONE discovery of this year&#8217;s trip! \ud83d\ude42 Don&#8217;t hesitate a minute, go there! Especialy if you love delicious food.. or architecture!
