We didn’t manage to see everything we wanted and try all the food we planned. We spent 2.5 days in Singapore. Too short, yet in this short period we visited plenty of amazingly tasty places where we ate a whole lot of delicacies! If I were to live there, I guess I would eat all the time! 🙂

Seems like you can eat EVERYWHERE in Singapore, but the food courts and shopping hall stalls are the most popular! Interesting, isn’t it? For us, lunch at the shopping centre is a painful and occasional necessity while here I wanted to eat EVERYTHING they served! Lots of Asian restaurants (Chinese, Korean, Japanese, Indonesian), sweets that made me salivate all over myself and various tempting drinks with lots of bubble tea variations on top of it… also plenty of stalls in which you can grab a quickie such as curry puff – a kind of pie stuffed with potatoes and curry chicken which is very popular in Singapore. Usually for 1.5 Singapore dollars (PLN 4.5). Enough to kill the first hunger.

A food court is yet another place where you don’t know what to look at! A dozen or so stalls with something delicious to try on almost all of them! Soups, snacks, meals, noodles, desserts, chicken, duck, sugar cane juice, coconuts! Madness!

Let’s hit the city! The best way to move around in Singapore is by subway called MRT (Mass Rapid Transport). It will take you to Chinatown, Little India, Gardens by the Bay (a beautiful place about which we also have to tell you!) and to Marina. If you like walking you can also move around on foot. However one of the players on our team gave up on walking, especially in 37 degrees heat, so we went for a chilled subway 😉 Especially with it being a special attraction for a 3-year-old!

Where to eat in Singapore?

Here are our hints:

DIN TAI FUNG

Din Tai Fung in Raffles City

If you love all sorts of Chinese dim sum dumplings like us, then this place is an absolute must! Din Tai Fung is several restaurants located around Singapore, usually in shopping centres. We visited a branch in Raffles City centre by Raffles Boulevard (near Esplanade subway station). First look? A whole lot of dumpling baskets, menu with not only dim sums but also wontons, great soups, snacks and the best fried rice with pork according to Maks! Oriental wontons in black vinegar and chili oil were my favourite – perfectly spicy, delicate inside, just delicious! We went for a mix of European and Asian cuisine for dessert – steamed dumplings with red kidney beans paste and melting chocolate! Din Tai Fung is not a cheap place (one meal costs about 8-10 Singapore dollars which is about PLN 25-30) but it’s worth it. It’s impossible to miss – between glass office buildings, a large hall covered with a roof with a large Lau Pa Sat written on it.

Inside you will find dozens of stalls with Chinese, Singapore and Indian cuisine meals, desserts, drinks, coconuts and sugar cane juice. Lots of people, often wearing suits, digging for fishballs with their chopsticks and slurping noodles. Some eat in groups, in twos, but many are sitting alone – they must have took a short break for a quick dinner.

Feeling stuffed after Din Tai Fing we grab a laksa (delicious) from one of the stalls and a fishball noodles soup. The meals cost around 3-5 Singapore dollars each so the whole family can have lunch for PLN 25!

Laksa is a soup that’s popular in Singapore, Malaysia and Indonesia alike (there was a proud sign in our hotel in Jakarta that read IN LAKSA WE TRUST;)). It’s prepared from red curry and coconut milk with noodles, meat, shrimps, fish cake and whatever else the cook has on hand! Laksa at Song Kee Fishball Noodles stall was pretty awesome!

Fishball noodles soup is a great idea if you’re travelling with a child – the little one gets its chicken soup with noodles and then boom: soy sauce and chilli go into the soup and everybody’s happy 😉 We didn’t manage to test the rest of the stalls but there was so many of them that everybody should be able to find something for them!

Lau Pa Sat is open 24/7 – it must be amazing to have such a place for an early 5 am breakfast after party!!! New hungry ones are coming quickly and taking free seats at your table. Most of the people hold a huge glass with ice and a green liquid in it. We quickly learn that it’s a freshly squeezed sugar cane juice.
