If you’ve been reading us for a while than you know that it’s one of our favourites and Thailand is one of our most beloved destinations. It amazed us in Autumn 2012 when we saw not only steaming Bangkok , but also colourful and quite magical North and the heavenly islands in the South. We fell in love with a well prepared pad thai once and for all, served with crushed peanuts, lime and dry chili to spice it up yourself. We loved crunchy spring rolls that we dipped in a sweet sauce. The sauce that makes me think of a hot day somewhere in Chiang Rai or on the streets of Bangkok. Maks fell in love with satay chicken – so much that when he saw a souvlaki – a Greek chicken shashlik, he assumed that it’s just a bigger version of a satay 🙂 Add fried rice noodles, soups so hot, that even Łukasz sweats eating them, and heavenly tasting sticky rice with mango and you’ll pretty much get the picture. That’s how Thailand tastes.

After we got back, we starter vigorously searching for the taste of Thailand in Warsaw, but after a while we gave ourselves a break and focused on other things such as Vietnamese pho soup or bun nem with beef. Thanks to Mamma Marietta we fell in love with Italian specialties again. We also looked for new places. Suddenly people started to go like: “go to Naam Thai ! It’s the best Thai place in Warsaw!”. We hesitated, partially because we had no time, partially because Saska Kępa is never on our way, but we finally got there

An accidental lunch, on the run, with a laptop on the table since you have to finish a tonne of things before vacation, all ASAP! I resisted for a while, I had no time, wasn’t that hungry etc. Finally I went.

cassava pudding with fruits was one of the first things I noticed 🙂

A nice place, bright, decorated in a modern way, but not too modern, quite busy in the lunch time, no awkward trendiness, a cosy, “normal” interior. In a positive way. We quickly go through the menu. I would like to eat more, but I wasn’t really hungry so I stick to the main course.

The starters include chicken satay, spring rolls with sweet and sour sauce, but the thing that intrigues me the most is fried Thai sandwiches with marinated and fried pork, served with herbs and sweet sauce (PLN 17). I need to try the next time! Łukasz traditionally goes for tom kha gai soup with chicken and coconut milk (PLN 19). Unfortunately, after we have finished we find out that the real specialty of Naam Thai is a baked duck soup prepared according to Chef’s unkle’s secret recipe! Another reason to come back!

tom kha gai like in Bangkok

We obviously order a pad thai from the main courses section, as we cannot rate any Thai restaurant without seeing how their pad thai looks like! Especially after experiencing so many bummers in this subject: a lemon instead of a lime, no dry chili or pad thais not tasting like pad thais at all. Therefore Łukasz orders pad thai with chicken (PLN 33) and I go for pad ka prow with beef (PLN 36) from the wok meals section served with fresh chilli, garlic, Thai basil and oyster sauce.

perfectly served pad thai

tender slices of beef in oyster sauce – amazing!

Both meals get an A+! Pad thai is served how it should be: lime, sprouts, peanuts and dry chilli are all there. You add as much extras as you like. It tastes as good as the ones we tried in Thailand – the chef comes from Bangkok and that’s what we counted on! My beef may not look too photogenic, but it tastes great – the slices are really thin and tender, the vegetables crispy and the sauce intense. The combination makes me eat it all, even though I’m not that hungry.

If the starters and main courses are a success, we always order desserts. Sometimes we’re too full for that, but if the desserts sound interesting we just have to order them. The blackboard says: cassava pudding with fruits (PLN 19) and black sticky rice with mango and sorbet (PLN 19). We take it all! How was it? It’s the dessert that makes me go like: “We have to get back to Naam Thai!” for our whole Cretan trip. Cassava pudding absolutely rules. The texture and the taste make me wanna eat it forever. Sticky rice is also tasty, traditionally served with mango, but it’s the pudding that wins here. Be sure to try it!

heavenly taste!

sticky rice with mango – why put whipped cream on it?..

If you haven’t realised it yet, I’ll say it for you: YOU HAVE TO GO TO NAAM THAI!! 🙂 It’s heavenly delicious.
