Usually they&#8217;re really expensive and not necessarily good. The food needs to correspond with diverse tastes of guests which sometimes makes it dull and mixed-up. What&#8217;s more, in cities such as Cracow, Wroc\u0142aw or Toru\u0144 you can find a lot of restaurants covering various cuisines in the city; no need to step into your hotel restaurant. Don&#8217;t they remind you of a travelling businessman who has no time to go anywhere else and is forced to eat in the hotel?<\/p>\n<p>We started visiting hotel restaurants when Maks joined us on our travels. We used to go out every time we arrived at our hotel regardless of the time of arrival or tiredness after a whole day of sightseeing. To have a dinner, go for a walk, party. Nowadays, when we arrive at the hotel at 9 pm or get back at 8.30 after a whole day of walking, we have absolutely no desire to go out. That&#8217;s how we started visiting hotel restaurants.. Lately we&#8217;ve been quite lucky as we mostly encountered really good ones!<\/p>\n<div style=\"width: 650px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" src=\"http:\/\/en.tasteaway.pl\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/02\/DSC0586-640x425.jpg\" alt=\"Cracoe, Vanilla Sky, Niebieski Art Hotel &amp; SPA\" width=\"640\" height=\"425\" \/><p class=\"wp-caption-text\">perfect for a romantic dinner<\/p><\/div>\n<p>A few weeks ago we visited Cracow and got pleasantly surprised by <a href=\"http:\/\/www.vanilla-sky.pl\/\"><b>Vanilla Sky<\/b><\/a> restaurant in <a href=\"http:\/\/www.niebieski.com.pl\/\"><b>Niebieski Art Hotel &amp; SPA<\/b><\/a>. Menu is actually quite &#8220;hotel&#8221; with lots of classic meals not necessarily going together well: tiger prawns and carpaccio on one hand and borscht or goulash soup served in a pot not really corresponding with the elegant interior on the other. But there was a spark of originality in the menu and we managed to find something that satisfied our culinary tastes and needs&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>Apart from that, <b>Vanilla Sky<\/b> is a nice place to sit for a while in the evening. A nice interior with a Vistula river view. Ideal if you&#8217;re travelling with a child and would like to have a romantic dinner for two&#8230; Impossible? \ud83d\ude00 Not at all! In Niebieski there is playroom right next to the restaurant &#8211; fitted with a mini pool billiard, table football, a slide, books and bricks. A paradise for Maks.<\/p>\n<p>How about the flavours and prices? Not bad! We start with a soup (PLN 12 &#8211; 22). \u00a0A lot to choose from with the abovementioned goulash soup, onion soup, and more original asparagus thick soup. I go for my latest favourite &#8211; <b>Sicilian tomatoes cream soup with mozzarella and fresh basil<\/b> (PLN 14). \u0141ukasz orders <b>broccoli thick soup with mascarpone cheese and smoked herring<\/b> (PLN 18). Both soups are really tasty and the size of the portions is just alright. Maks gets a traditional treatment &#8211; chicken soup. Kids menu is also available.<\/p>\n<div style=\"width: 650px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" src=\"http:\/\/en.tasteaway.pl\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/02\/DSC0601-640x425.jpg\" alt=\"Cracow, vanilla Sky, Niebieski Art Hotel &amp; SPA, brocolli soup\" width=\"640\" height=\"425\" \/><p class=\"wp-caption-text\">A+ looks and taste!<\/p><\/div>\n<p>There is a lot of fish meals in the main course section and that&#8217;s a big advantage for me. Not only a baked salmon that is present pretty much everywhere but also a perch-pike, sea perch and a halibut. The meals are quite clever and even the baked salmon sounds attractive, even though I&#8217;m quite fed up with it nowadays and prefer a raw version in sushi \ud83d\ude42 Here it is served in teriyaki sauce (Maks&#8217; favourite sauce) with fried vegetables, bean sprouts and jasmine rice (PLN 42) and sounds really tempting. I, however decide to order a <b>tuna steak<\/b>. It seems quite unusual that a restaurant such as <b>Vanilla Sky<\/b> serves a tuna steak. I don&#8217;t know what are your experiences, but I don&#8217;t see it too often and if so, it is in top notch restaurants such as Warsaw&#8217;s <a href=\"http:\/\/en.tasteaway.pl\/2013\/04\/26\/romantyczna-kolacja-w-nolicie\/\">Nolita<\/a> or <a href=\"http:\/\/en.tasteaway.pl\/2012\/10\/23\/ostrygi-zupa-rybna-i-suflet-czekoladowy-czyli-po-francusku-w-warszawie\/\">Michel Moran&#8217;s Bistro de Paris<\/a>. Contrary to the salmon, I rarely choose sushi with tuna. But I&#8217;m happy to eat a steak &#8211; what&#8217;s even more attractive, it is marinated in chilli and mint and served with Caribbean salsa and couscous. That&#8217;s it!<\/p>\n<p>\u0141ukasz also sticks to fish and orders a <b>halibut served on green peas risotto with a touch of lemon grass, aubergine tagliatelle and butter and saffron sauce<\/b> (PLN 45). A bit complicated&#8230; not mind-blowing but quite decent. My tuna is perfect on the other hand &#8211; tender and prepared well with a salsa that&#8217;s a bit sweet and sour in taste and meets my expectations. I would surely have the Vanilla Sky tuna again. Even now! \ud83d\ude00<\/p>\n<div style=\"width: 650px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" src=\"http:\/\/en.tasteaway.pl\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/02\/DSC0606-640x425.jpg\" alt=\"Vanilla Sky, Cracow, Niebieski Art Hotel &amp;SPA\" width=\"640\" height=\"425\" \/><p class=\"wp-caption-text\">tuna steak with Caribbean salsa and couscous (PLN 59)<\/p><\/div>\n<div style=\"width: 650px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" src=\"http:\/\/en.tasteaway.pl\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/02\/DSC0611-640x425.jpg\" alt=\"halibut, Vanilla Sky, Niebieski Art Hotel &amp; Spa\" width=\"640\" height=\"425\" \/><p class=\"wp-caption-text\">halibut on a risotto (PLN 45)<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Meat is also present on the menu. A wide variety: a steak, veal and pork tenderloins, lamb cutlets, and wild boar loin. Judging from the description the duck fillets with cherry-rosemary sauce, potatoes and fried apples (PLN 48) seemed the most interesting. But the love for the tuna prevailed! \ud83d\ude42<\/p>\n<p>We are almost too full for a dessert and therefore we order just one. The dessert section is quite typical but one plate stands out. There&#8217;s a Wiener apple strudel with vanilla ice cream (that&#8217;s a no &#8211; we ate a lot of those during Christmas fairs in Germany!), a cheesecake (\u0141ukasz doesn&#8217;t like it &#8211; he had more than enough at his family home:)), creme brulee (I see it everywhere lately!). We&#8217;re thinking about brownie with maracuia cream (PLN 16) and <b>semifreddo<\/b> <b>zabaione with pistachios and chocolate sauce<\/b> (PLN 16). Semifreddo wins and it&#8217;s surely worth it! \ud83d\ude42 Before we got it we weren&#8217;t too much into ordering a dessert and felt quite full. Then, we started fighting with our spoons to have more of it, licked the plate clean and remembered the time we spent in Italian <a href=\"http:\/\/en.tasteaway.pl\/2012\/08\/23\/wakacyjne-smaki-czyli-poludniowych-wloch-wspomnienie\/\">Positano<\/a>.<\/p>\n<div style=\"width: 650px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" src=\"http:\/\/en.tasteaway.pl\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/02\/DSC0616-640x425.jpg\" alt=\"Vanilla Sky, cracow, Niebieski Art Hotel &amp; Spa\" width=\"640\" height=\"425\" \/><p class=\"wp-caption-text\">ideal semifreddo with delicious chocolate sauce<\/p><\/div>\n<div style=\"width: 650px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" src=\"http:\/\/en.tasteaway.pl\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/02\/DSC0589-640x425.jpg\" alt=\"Vanilla Sky, Niebieski Art Hotel &amp; Spa\" width=\"640\" height=\"425\" \/><p class=\"wp-caption-text\">chilling after a long day<\/p><\/div>\n<p><b>Vanilla Sky<\/b> is yet another example of a hotel restaurant that&#8217;s tasty and it is a great place to have a dinner after a long day. If you don&#8217;t want to visit the tourist-oriented spots around the market square, have a walk down the Vistula boulevard and check it out. Even if you&#8217;re not staying at Niebieski hotel.
