Saturday, Sunday, holiday\u2026 Family dinner, a meeting with friends, kids, walk. We’ve recently came to the conclusion that we still don’t know many spots for a family dinner, as we’re not always in the mood for sushi in Izumi Bia\u0142y Kamie\u0144<\/b> <\/a>(and that’s where we usually go by ourselves, with grandparents, with friends who have children) and it’s unfortunately too far away to Kura Domo<\/a>wa\u2026<\/p>\n

Our last Saturday was the perfect moment to find such a spot. There were 4 adults + 3 children aged 2.5, 3 and 5 years old. So many children is for most restaurants too much too handle. We make a rather quick decision and head towards the Indian restaurant Bombaj Masala<\/b> <\/a>on Aleja Jana Paw\u0142a II. We haven’t been here for a while, despite the fact that it’s probably our favourite Indian restaurant in Warsaw<\/a> and that’s where we like to reminisce on our journey to India, in the “pre-blog” times :). We remember from our previous visits that the restaurant has an animator for children on Sundays between 2 and 6 pm and a permanent kids’ corner with toys. Let’s go!<\/p>\n

The interior is spacious, there’s room for a buggy, and there are two more children. There are little chairs and there’s a corner that we’ve been counting on. Unfortunately, we’re sitting far away from it – well, we should have booked our table more than 30 minutes before arrival \ud83d\ude42<\/p>\n

We’re together with friends, so there’s an opportunity to try many delicacies. Are you ready? \ud83d\ude42 Let’s start with a pile of papadums, or thin crisp “breads” resembling crisps. They’re with cumin but I adore them nonetheless. They’re served with sauces: i.e. yoghourt with coriander and peppermint, or spicy made of tamarind, chilli, dates and prunes.<\/p>\n

We ask for Bombaj Masala’s specialty starters and we get a Tandoor meat platter – there are a few variants of chicken, redfish (fish tikka<\/i>) and shrimps. There’s also minced lamb kebab. As usual, my favourite is chicken tikka<\/i> (spicy marinated chicken) and malai kebab<\/i>, or the mild kebab with cashew nuts, suitable for children.<\/p>\n

We also greatly enjoy the fried vegetables battered in rice flour and onion bahija,<\/i> or crisp fried onion balls. We also have the chance to try vegetable “meatballs” with cashew nuts, as well as samosas with potatoes and green peas.<\/p>\n

Ughh! It’s delicious but also very filling. You should take this under consideration if you’re hungry while ordering \ud83d\ude42 Especially that starters are followed by mains! This time we’ve also decided to have half portions of a few of courses, to be able to try more. An entire portion is definitely a portion for two people or\u2026 two days – take it home with you! \ud83d\ude42<\/p>\n

My favourite hasn’t changed throughout the years – it’s butter chicken, or chicken in a creamy tomato-peanut sauce (PLN 34). I love it! With basmati rice or with naans. We’ve also tried lamb in coconut sauce with curry leaves (PLN 41) and palak paneer<\/i>, or paneer cheese with spinach sauce (PLN 28). There were also cheese “meatballs” with dried fruits and cashew nut sauce (PLN 26) – delicious but I found them a bit too sweet for a main course \ud83d\ude42<\/p>\n

After this feast we didn’t have the space for deserts, but we had children with us \ud83d\ude42 They had dinner at home and did a great job as desert testers. They preferred kulfi <\/i>(PLN 12), or an Indian frozen desert resembling ice-cream but of a different texture. They’ve also tried gulab jamun,<\/i> or little donuts in sweet syrup (PLN 10). Children didn’t like them very much, but I do – despite the fact that the Indian deserts are probably 3 times sweeter than our deserts!<\/p>\n

What is suitable for children in Bombaj Masala, apart from deserts? It depends on your preferences. Maybe naans and battered vegetables? And maybe Tandoor chicken in a cashew nut marinate and basmati rice? The menu is long, so you’ll definitely find something \ud83d\ude42<\/p>\n

And if you’re coming without children? Bombaj Masala is great for a meetings with friends, business lunches and for a dinner for two. You have to try for yourself!<\/p>\n
