If so, then treat this post as a quick guide&#8230; If not, I&#8217;ll try to convince you through your stomachs \ud83d\ude42 Let me invite you to a Tatar lunch, dinner and obviously the dessert&#8230; You know that something sweet is the essential part of every recommendation.<\/p>\n<p>But let&#8217;s start with the dinner&#8230; Tatar cuisine is very nutritious, filling and perfect for cold winter times, when we need some extra energy after a long walk in the snow. Lots of tasty potatoes in different combinations and lots of meat (with no pork however, as it is forbidden in Islam). One vegetarian travelling with us had particular problems finding something to eat, but don&#8217;t worry, there are some veggie dishes as well. Let&#8217;s start then!<\/p>\n<p>The hosts chose the first lunch for us, bringing their <i>best of the best<\/i>. We got several different dishes to share and try a bit of everything, which was a great idea.<\/p>\n<p>We started with <b>babka ziemniaczana<\/b>, served with\u00a0 fantastic, homemade garlic sauce. Its recipe is a secret&#8230;<\/p>\n<div style=\"width: 650px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.tasteaway.pl\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/02\/dsc9884.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.tasteaway.pl\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/02\/dsc9884.jpg\" alt=\"babka ziemniaczana, czyli jak odzyska\u0107 si\u0142y zim\u0105\" width=\"640\" height=\"425\" \/><\/a><p class=\"wp-caption-text\">babka ziemniaczana, or hoe to &#8220;recharge&#8221; batteries in winter<\/p><\/div>\n<p>A very potato<b> kryszonka<\/b> turned out to be delicious as well. It was a potato and meat casserole, served with sauerkraut&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>Then something more usual \u2013 <b>pyzy, <\/b>a bit<b> <\/b>similar to Lithuanian cepelinai, that we usually eat in\u00a0 <a href=\"http:\/\/widelcemprzezswiat.wordpress.com\/2012\/08\/09\/kartacze-bliny-soczewiaki-i-kiszka-czyli-ziemniak-w-wydaniu-litewskim\/\">Lithuanian Consulate in Sejny<\/a>. Those here were served different, in a chicken broth.<\/p>\n<div style=\"width: 650px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.tasteaway.pl\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/02\/dsc9870.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.tasteaway.pl\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/02\/dsc9870.jpg\" alt=\"pyzy\" width=\"640\" height=\"425\" \/><\/a><p class=\"wp-caption-text\">pyzy<\/p><\/div>\n<p>a beef version for meat eaters&#8230;<\/p>\n<div style=\"width: 650px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.tasteaway.pl\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/02\/dsc9883.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.tasteaway.pl\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/02\/dsc9883.jpg\" alt=\"wersja dla mi\u0119so\u017cerc\u00f3w\" width=\"640\" height=\"425\" \/><\/a><p class=\"wp-caption-text\">meat version<\/p><\/div>\n<p>and a vegetarian spicy one with cottage cheese and garlic&#8230;<\/p>\n<div style=\"width: 650px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.tasteaway.pl\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/02\/dsc9905.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.tasteaway.pl\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/02\/dsc9905.jpg\" alt=\"wersja dla wegetarian\" width=\"640\" height=\"425\" \/><\/a><p class=\"wp-caption-text\">vegetarian version<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Another treat we tasted was <i>belysz<\/i> \u2013 a layered pastry with meat, eggs and mushrooms. Some of us liked it a lot, I missed the potatoes though&#8230;;)<\/p>\n<div style=\"width: 650px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.tasteaway.pl\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/02\/dsc9889.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.tasteaway.pl\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/02\/dsc9889.jpg\" alt=\"belysz, czyli wielowarstwowe ciasto z mi\u0119sem, ry\u017cem i jajkiem\" width=\"640\" height=\"425\" \/><\/a><p class=\"wp-caption-text\">belysz: a layered pastry with meat, mushrooms, rice and egg<\/p><\/div>\n<div style=\"width: 650px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.tasteaway.pl\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/02\/dsc9967.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.tasteaway.pl\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/02\/dsc9967.jpg\" alt=\"zamiast jeczpoczmak\u00f3w\" width=\"640\" height=\"425\" \/><\/a><p class=\"wp-caption-text\">baked dumplings with meat&#8230;<\/p><\/div>\n<p>last but not least: second option for vegetarians \u2013 <b>kartoflaniki<\/b>:<\/p>\n<div style=\"width: 650px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.tasteaway.pl\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/02\/dsc9895.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.tasteaway.pl\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/02\/dsc9895.jpg\" alt=\"piero\u017cki-sakiewki z jajkiem na twardo i pietruszk\u0105\" width=\"640\" height=\"425\" \/><\/a><p class=\"wp-caption-text\">pouch-like dumplings with potatoes, hard boiled eggs, onion and parsley<\/p><\/div>\n<p>And <b>manty<\/b>&#8230; Sweet dumplings that I instantly fell in love with. Steam-cooked, with delicate cottage cheese, delicate pastry and served with cream and raspberry sauce. So delicious!<\/p>\n<div style=\"width: 650px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.tasteaway.pl\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/02\/dsc9922.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.tasteaway.pl\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/02\/dsc9922.jpg\" alt=\"pycha - idealne na deser i na kolacj\u0119\" width=\"640\" height=\"425\" \/><\/a><p class=\"wp-caption-text\">yummy &#8211; a perfect dessert or dinner<\/p><\/div>\n<p>If you&#8217;re more into a traditional (smaller?) dessert, try a cake \u2013 <b>listkowiec<\/b>. It&#8217;s a layered yeast pastry with cottage cheese and raisins, served hot. The portion is gigantic, so we took one for six persons. It was gone in seconds.<\/p>\n<div style=\"width: 650px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.tasteaway.pl\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/02\/dsc99181.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.tasteaway.pl\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/02\/dsc99181.jpg\" alt=\"ciasto dro\u017cd\u017cowe inaczej\" width=\"640\" height=\"425\" \/><\/a><p class=\"wp-caption-text\">unusual yeast cake<\/p><\/div>\n<p>We also managed to see how <b>tolkysh<\/b> (a kind of &#8220;shredded pastry&#8221; made from caramel) is made in <b>Tatarska Jurta.<\/b> To\u0142kysz is similar to Turkish <i>pismaniye <\/i>(little &#8220;hairy&#8221; sweets, very popular in Turkey). The preparation process is divided into a few phases, engages the whole family and looks quite magical:<\/p>\n<div style=\"width: 650px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.tasteaway.pl\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/02\/dsc9934.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.tasteaway.pl\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/02\/dsc9934.jpg\" alt=\"pierwszy etap to karmel roz\u0142o\u017cony na wielkim blacie\" width=\"640\" height=\"425\" \/><\/a><p class=\"wp-caption-text\">first phase: the caramel is laid on a huge table<\/p><\/div>\n<div style=\"width: 650px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.tasteaway.pl\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/02\/dsc9938.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.tasteaway.pl\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/02\/dsc9938.jpg\" alt=\"d\u0142ugi proces rozci\u0105gnia i wyci\u0105gania karmelu na wszystkie strony...\" width=\"640\" height=\"425\" \/><\/a><p class=\"wp-caption-text\">long process of stretching the caramel into all directions&#8230;<\/p><\/div>\n<div style=\"width: 650px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.tasteaway.pl\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/02\/dsc9942.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.tasteaway.pl\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/02\/dsc9942.jpg\" alt=\"po dodaniu mas\u0142a wieloosobowa wsp\u00f3\u0142praca nim karmel zmieni si\u0119 w...\" width=\"640\" height=\"425\" \/><\/a><p class=\"wp-caption-text\">adding butter and teamwork makes the caramel turn into&#8230;<\/p><\/div>\n<div style=\"width: 650px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.tasteaway.pl\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/02\/dsc9944.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.tasteaway.pl\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/02\/dsc9944.jpg\" alt=\"w duuuu\u017ce ilo\u015bci anielskiego w\u0142osia, czyli ta\u0142kyszu\" width=\"640\" height=\"425\" \/><\/a><p class=\"wp-caption-text\">&#8230;.lots of &#8220;shredded pastry&#8221; or in other words: tolkysh<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Coffee and tea is also delicious at Tatarska Jurta. Tea is infused with lemon and fresh mint leaves \u2013 we drank litres and kept asking for more pots. Coffee lovers will surely like the coffee with cinnamon&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>One more thing \u2013 <b>pierekaczewnik<\/b>, that I wrote about before. That&#8217;s something that you just can&#8217;t miss here as the owners are the only persons allowed to serve it (they have an EU certificate).
