You already know that vegetables aren’t really my thing. Same goes for my 3 year old son, but I’m not worried about that just yet. I know that it would have been great if he liked broccoli, carrots and nibbled on kohlrabi instead of chips, but looking at myself I don’t see any negative effects of such approach. I mean, I like some vegetables, but not that many… You can say that I will get it! But I say: we’ll see about that! Well, I’ve been avoiding vegetables for many years and suddenly my friends started turning to vegetarian diet/religion/way of life! The reasons vary: it may be either health, diet, shape or ideology. So when we meet, from obvious reasons, we look for places that will satisfy everybody… We can’t do a burger or a steak now 🙂
So, last Tuesday one of my vege friends told me: ‘Hungry? Check Ósma Kolonia out, you’ll find something for yourself!’ Ósma Kolonia is a moderately new place that popped up in Żoliborz near Teatr Komedia, right next to Secret Life Cafe. It’s owned by the same guys, so if you want coffee for your lunch, just go next door. I already heard a bit about Ósma Kolonia before since my other vege friend wanted to check it out too. I even wanted to go there with her! But now I’m scared! Will I find anything for me there???

Ósma Kolonia with a great slogan: Good People – Good Food
It’s easy to find the place. It’s small, with a few wooden tables, one person at each, very quiet. Menu written on a blackboard… quite obvious isn’t it? 🙂 About 8-10 dishes… They’re described Amaro style – with the ingredients only (we first came upon such ways of description in Atelier Amaro). I see lentils, pleurotus in coconut sauce, ‘fry ups’ (what’s that???), I see desserts – prunes, apples, kogel-mogel- this one sounds amazing! 🙂 But I’m supposed to eat lunch here! I order the lunch menu. A soup and a main course for PLN 25. Soup’s made from sweet potatoes, apples and… whisky! Main course from pumpkin, milky way cheese and rucola. Sounds good! I know all the ingredients! Not one is as scary as carrots or broccoli 😉
Lunch comes very quickly and I get a free water carafe before. I already said that it’s a good custom! First points for Ósma Kolonia! Then I get the soup… creamy, delicate and a bit sweet… It’s so good that I keep talking about it for the next few days and it becomes the biggest culinary discovery of the week! I would happily lick the plate clean! Main course comes as quickly. Great speed as for a quick lunch! Pumpkin, milky way cheese and rucola turns out to be a tasty and nutritious salad. Little pieces of pumpkin are soft and have kind of an orange flavour, the cheese is creamy, distinct in flavour and it all goes great with rucola, salad and mustard sauce! Wow, I had a vegetarian lunch and it was all great! MOM, are YOU GETTING IT????!!!!???? 🙂

My vegetarian friend does not eat lunch but she orders a dessert – prunes, apples and KOGEL-MOGEL(PLN 15). If I only had some space left in my belly after this lunch!!! I’m also temped by the second version – prunes, apples and crumble! The dessert looks fantastic and it’s quite big too! Perfect for an afternoon snack or if you’re just eating just main course before…

Well, the impossible became possible! I got amazed after eating VEGETABLE dishes! When my mom reads that, she will surely fall of her stool 🙂 And I really loved Ósma Kolonia! As soon as I left, I called my vegetarian friend and told her that yes, she must go there, and that she has to do it quick! And that I will be happy to go with her! Because the food in Ósma Kolonia is so good that even meateaters and vegetable opponents will find something they like. I’m surely coming back. I just don’t know when, because Żoliborz is so far away… But that’s a good reason to spend more time there 🙂 Especially after liking their profile on Facebook. They post so many delicious pictures!

I’m in, how about you? 🙂
