It’s not the first time I’m writing about Kazimierz Dolny. I still love it for its calmness, walks, the possibility to get away from the big city in just 1.5 hours, numerous delicacies and the best hot and ice chocolate I have ever tried!
I also wrote about Vincent’s before. Here for instance. But I’ll write again — they have a new menu, the pool is operational now (even though the weather isn’t swimming-friendly) and every time I visit the place, I fall in love with it again. Sitting on the couch in the lobby that looks more like a cosy cafe than a hotel reception, listening to calm music in the evening, you can recharge and fill your mind with positive thoughts for the forthcoming week…
I’ll keep it brief so that those of you who read my previous posts about Kazimierz or heard it first hand, won’t get bored.
WHAT DO WE LOVE VINCENT’S FOR?
Well, I have to write about the delicious food first, you know…
1) We love it for Kuchnia i Wino Restaurant with a menu prepared by Wojciech Modest Amaro who also taught local Chef. The restaurant satisfies us most of the times we eat here. Currently we are amazed by the new menu with a potatoes and leek zalewajka on sourdough with cabbage stuffed dumplings (PLN 12), dumplings with pleurotus, walnuts, cheese and sundried tomato mousse stuffing (PLN 39). If you want something more traditional, try a duck, served in quite an original way though – on beetroot with raspberry-balsamic jelly and strawberry and rhubarb chutney (PLN 48).
We had particularly big expectations concerning the duck. I recently tried a delicious one in Różana Restaurant in Warsaw. It left me and my 85 year old grandmother amazed for several days, which I wrote about here.
It was the first time I tried a duck in Kuchnia i Wino and it was delicious too, yet different. Less traditional. But I enjoyed the combination of duck taste and delicate potato puree, a beetroot, strawberry and rhubarb chutney and thin raspberry jelly. Maks enjoyed the duck again – you can already see his exquisite taste 😉 Just kidding — lately, apart from the duck, wieners are his favourite!
2) We also love Vincent’s for the kids menu in Kuchnia i Wino Restaurant. You can choose from two types of pasta (with meat or tomatoes), fish burgers with potatoes and soups. The prices are decent (from PLN 7 for soups to PLN 15 for a large meal with fish burgers). The menu itself is printed on a separate sheet of paper with a little colouring sketch included…
3) We love Vincent’s for freshly squeezed apple, carrot and celery juices (PLN 10), which is something more than the usual “orange and grapefruit” option, for a wholemeal apple pie with blueberry sauce and homemade ice cream of unusual flavours (chestnut!). We love it for delicious breakfasts, which we will definitely add to the entry as soon as we eat it 🙂 Right now, you can admire it here. I love their granola!
4) We also love the place for amazing interior design, which I won’t even describe to you. Instead, just take a look at these pictures…
The rooms are also stylish, each of them decorated differently. There’s a baby bed and it’s cosy. That’s the positive stuff. I do have a few suggestions, though:
1) I don’t recommend the salads from the menu. Especially the small versions (PLN 25). Both the one with cheddar from Wąwolnica along with dried fruits and the one with goat’s cheese, baked peppers and croutons have a humble amount of ingredients and lots of salad in it. I already said that I’m not a rabbit and like to have something more than green salad in my meal. I recently ate salads rich in ingredients in Różana and in Taste Wilanów. Here, the salad section is quite poor and you have scarcely any ingridients in them!
2) I know that Vincent’s and Kuchnia i Wino are slow food establishments, but I wouldn’t mind waiting for the meals just a little bit shorter. Today I was close to chewing on the table and Łukasz ate the remains of Maks’ pasta waiting for his own main course. And he doesn’t do it often 🙂 So, keep it slow food but make it just a little bit faster 🙂
In the evening we went looking for new flavours in Kazimierz and came upon a Hungarian restaurant! Soon you’ll know if it’s worth a visit. For now, keep your fingers crossed for a sunny Sunday! 🙂
