Friday, the weekend and this fantastic, long May bank holiday is waiting right around the corner! 🙂 So, how about a romantic dinner for a good start? Maybe your boyfriend will surprise you with such an idea? Very recently we were looking for a place to spend our anniversary eating something nice. We considered many places but it always turned out that we already know it or that the place was full.
Somehow by chance we came across positive reviews about Nolita restaurant , which was opened not long ago on the corner of ul. Wilcza and ul. Poznańska. (This neighbourhood has recently witnessed a true boom of bars and restaurants).
We went to Nolita on a Wednesday evening — it was nice and peaceful with a couple of tables occupied by other guests. The interior was elegant and modest, although a bit too dark for me — you probably know by now that I feel much better in brighter rooms…
We felt like trying a lot of different things so we decided to go for a tasting menu. This way we had a chance to try 8 small dishes, both fish and meat, some simple, some more sophisticated.
Our overall impression is very positive — it’s definitely a place we’ll visit again and recommend to others.
What did we like best, what tasted so-so and what was absolutely amazing? Let’s begin with the starters:
We started with oyster tartar served with mango sorbet in a cute, small jug. It was light and very tasty, even for me (who is not such a big fan of oysters)
Next we had St. Jacques scallops served with pomegranate, and my favourite — grilled calamari, this time with cherry tomatoes and aubergine mousse. Flavours of summer, Spain and Italy, again brought on the table in a nice, little can. In my opinion? Fantastic.
We had contrary opinions about what came next — Łukasz was delighted, I didn’t even try it… ladies and gentleman: veal marrow bones. Well, it definitely isn’t my story but the dish must have been fantastic – I can tell by the fact that Łukasz really enjoyed it (all the whole restaurant heard it, too). It must be my conservative culinary-me, I admit 🙂 For the same reason I didn’t like the sweetbread, served with a boletus and topinambour emulsion (there we have the keyword :)).
Later we had more of “my” flavours. I liked pig’s cheeks, even though I have to say that such a precise description scares me a little bit… They were served with an apple, slowly cooked bacon and mashed celery. Łukasz loved the latter so much that he even asked the waiter to find out about the recipe.
Towards the end of our dinner we had one more delicacy (at least if you ask me) — Asian-style tuna with tomago omelette and snap peas, strongly seasoned with soy sauce. Łukasz, on the other hand, said it was too salty and that the soy sauce killed all the tuna flavour. I guess you’ll have to decide for yourselves 🙂
Feeling quite full, we then moved on to desserts. I loved already the first one: tapioca with passion fruit, a sorbet and crackling caramel, which reminded me of various strange candies that fascinated us all in our childhood years. The second was a banana soufflé, served with Belgian chocolate ice-cream. It was very well prepared and I liked it — even though I’m not such a fun of bananas…
We had a really good time in Nolita on our anniversary and for such occasions this restaurant is a very good choice. Delicious food, toned-down, minimalistic interior… In other words, a perfect place for a date 🙂 Have a nice evening!
