Breakfast… ever since we were children, we’ve been told that it is the most important meal of the day, that it’s supposed to give us energy to survive many hours, that it has to be nutritious and healthy. I don’t know about you, but I still remember the need to eat something at home before going to school, even though my belly was totally huddled at 7 am! Nowadays, even though I like eating breakfasts, I still don’t always succeed at it… I know – it’s a big mistake! I fail because I oversleep, because I need to finish the newest entry, because I need to drive to kindergarten, because there’s no time and I can always drink the coffee somewhere in the city. I like our family breakfasts when I have time for them, but I guess I love breakfasts out even more! Preferably in a nice place with delicious food, together, with Maks or with friends. Such start of the day is the best energy injection you can get!

Even though we had the most beautiful breakfast of our lives on Lombok and we won’t forget it for a very long time, we already got fed up with Asian breakfasts and miss the ones we used to eat in Warsaw. Burma was definitely the worst with omnipresent fried noodles that were often quite dull, awful toasts, no milk at the hotels and other bummers I don’t even want to talk about. When it comes to breakfasts in Warsaw, more and more places come up with really interesting ideas and you have a lot to choose from. Expect the great return of breakfasts out in the city to the blog! 🙂 Today we’re giving you 6 best places that jump-started our days in the last months! 🙂 All highly recommended! If you have no time for it during the week, they’ll work great on a lazy Saturday or Sunday as well!

6 PLACES FOR AN UPLIFTING BREAKFAST OUT IN THE CITY

1) BYĆ MOŻE– ul. Bagatela 14 (Pl. Unii Lubelskiej)

breakfast, where to eat breakfast, breakfast in the city, Być MOże

Być Może is a recent discovery – a spacious interior that’s nicely decorated, perfect for a solitary breakfast with a laptop and for breakfast fun in larger company. One big advantage – you can order breakfast anytime – a perfect weekend solution when we often eat breakfasts at 1 or 2 pm! Plenty to choose from, omelettes, great and original sandwiches with a lot of ingredients and a super-tasty granola with chocolate and nuts. Omelette with figs and goat’s cheese is my absolute favourite!

A full breakfast set between 7 am and noon costs between PLN 12-17 but I have to warn you: if you’re very hungry, that might not be enough! 🙂

2) SECRET LIFE CAFE – ul. Słowackiego 15/19

Secret Life Cafe, breakfast, where to eat breakfast, breakfast in the city, Warsaw

Żoliborz is slowly becoming a culinary heaven – that’s no news. More and more restaurants, cafes and little joints. I keep envying my friends who live there, that they can have a quick coffee or breakfast while walking with the pram. In Secret Life Cafe for instance. A small cafe close to Teatr Komedia. A place that has a casual, neighbourly feel, were you can come with a laptop, a pram or whatever else you like.

It’s definitely a healthy place: you can order a green breakfast, or a herbivore’s breakfast. Oatmeal, millet groats or granola. Something for everybody. If you’re coming with a child, you’ll be happy to notice some toys available. And if you stay for breakfast for too long, you can always move a few steps further and have a veg lunch in sisterly Ósma Kolonia.

3) MR PANCAKE – ul. Solec 50

Mr Pancake, naleśniki, pancakes, where to eat breakfast, breakfast in the city, Warsaw

Did I say anything about healthy breakfasts? Time for something as far from oatmeal, avocado and wholemeal bread as you can get! Mr Pancake – no healthy and light breakfasts there. Instead, they follow the FUCK DIET, EAT PANCAKES and ‘it will end up in your boobs’ mottos. When I first saw their pictures on Facebook and Instagram, I couldn’t believe that they make such wonders in Powiśle, Warsaw, Poland.

When it comes to pancakes, they’re the masters: all their pancakes are tiny pieces of art both in taste and looks area. Let’s forget about healthy alimentation rules for a minute. Everyone needs a guilty pleasure from time to time. That’s the best place to take advantage of it. Apart from American pancakes served in many ways, they offer waffles, burgers, regular pancakes and milkshakes. There’s no chance you’ll leave this establishment hungry! 🙂

They guys behind Mr Pancake opened a new place recently. It’s called Dr Donut. I didn’t celebrate Fat Thursday this year, so you where to find me in the near future 🙂

4) GOFIARNIA – ul. Puławska 11 (entrance from ul. Goworka)

Gofiarnia, waffles, Warsaw, breakfast in the city, where to eat breakfast

Who said you can’t have waffles for breakfast??? Of course you can, especially in Gofiarnia which serves them sweet and savoury – something for everybody. Also, forget about classic waffles with whipped cream and sauce that you know from seaside resorts! Here, you get mascarpone cheese and prunes marmalade or a gingerbread waffle with mascarpone and caramel or… with chocolate, caramel and salted peanuts. If you don’t like sweet breakfasts, take one with salmon, Balkan yoghurt and capers or maybe the one with goat’s cheese, rucola and walnuts?

It’s not a place where you can enjoy you breakfast endlessly: Gofiarnia is a tiny ‘joint’ with a bunch of tables outside so the best time to visit it is on a warm and sunny day. In the wintertime it’s rather a place to have a quick breakfast on the go – grab a waffle with jam and go!

5) CZUŁA BUŁA – ul. Narbutta 16

Czuła Buła, millet groats, Mokotów, Warsaw, where to eat breakfast, breakfast in the city, good breakfast

I often visited Czuła Buła in the summer. A walk through calm and quiet ul. Narbutta was enough to start the day nicely. Czuła Buła has pancakes, eggs, millet groats, oatmeal, tasty salads and sandwiches. A healthy place! In the summer they had a kale cocktail – I’m not sure if they still have it on the menu!

You can work there, you can sit down and stay for lunch because they also have lunch sets, even though it’s more a cafe than a restaurant. I had better sandwiches and better granola but Czuła Buła has two other advantages: great vibe and reasonable prices.

6) CHIA BISTRO – ul. Obrzeżna 1C

Chia Bistro, jaglanka, Warsaw, breakfast, where to eat breakfast, good breakfast, breakfast in the city

CHIA Bistro is a great choice for those who like healthy breakfasts and those who work in the ul. Domaniewska area 🙂 A quiet and nice place, not too snobby, even a little bit homespun. I would definitely come by more often if it wasn’t so out-of-my-way. I could go there for an ad hoc breakfast with no initial plan. Menu includes some classics: eggs served in variety of ways, granola, millet groats (one of the best in town!), oatmeal, sandwiches, pancakes. Also, chia pudding – chia seeds served with milk and fruits. Omelette with salmon and goat’s cheese is the best thing they have – it makes the sandwiches look rather dull.

If you live or work nearby, remember about Chia Bistro since they also offer lunches and soups!

How about that? A weekend breakfast in the city? 🙂 Best bring your friends with you. Or go with your partner with fresh newspapers to read 🙂 Highly recommended!
