Gdańsk. It amazes me the same way every time I come here. I don’t remember the first time I’ve been here but it must’ve been when I was 8 or 10 years old during holidays in Władysławowo or Jastrzębia Góra. Then another trip during holidays by the seaside, I guess it was during Dominikański Fair which used to be quite an attraction back then. I always loved walking down Długi Targ street, passing through the gate and seeing Motława, old silos on the other bank of the river and red bricks of the nearby buildings. Gdańsk has a vibe. We love coming back and I’m happy we did it again.
This time Gdańsk managed to amaze me once again. It showed another face which all three of us – Maks, Łukasz and me liked so much that I decided to tell you more about it: a cruise on Motława river. Have you ever tried it? We didn’t until now and it was a great idea to go. It’s easy to notice the boats as you stroll along the bay. You can take a black, pirate one called ‘Black Pearl’ or something or a regular one which Maks picked. You can go one way to Westerplatte including sightseeing and then return taking another boat or take a round trip: Gdańsk – Westerplatte – Gdańsk. Tickets cost PLN 40 for a regular one and PLN 25 for kids over 4.
How is it? Amazing! Incredible old town of Gdańsk, colourful tenement houses and former silos made from red bricks. Fantastic story accompanying the trip that shows a completely different face of Gdańsk: remains of former Teutonic castle, wooden houses where rowers used to live back in the day, an old stronghold. Beautiful and cared-for Gdańsk with Wyspa Spichrzów and then abandoned and neglected. And finally the Shipyard which always makes incredible impression which I think is even bigger when you see it from Motława side. Remarkable atmosphere, huge ships, shipyard cranes. An eventful trip both for kids and for adults. See for yourself! 🙂
PS. As we were walking around Gdańsk and cruising through Motława I did an exercise which I recommend for everybody. Not only in Gdańsk but also in other places in Poland: Imagine it’s your first time here. You’re tourists and you just left the hotel to see the city. You bought yourselves the tickets and you’re on a boat. How would you react to what you see? My internal tourist was absolutely STUNNED with Gdańsk!!!!
