After publishing the entry about our favourite places with Indian cuisine in Warsaw a few days ago, we received dozens of messages with your favourite Indian places. We shared many experiences (especially in regard to the masters at Curry House!) but you also sent as a bunch of your own suggestions. One the most popular one was surely MR INDIA!

No need to tell us twice! Ursynów is not far from us which made it easy for us to go for lunch to Mr India located on al. KEN 47. The place is right next to Georgian Gaumarjos (we wrote about the place here!). It also looks a bit similar. Which is not a positive thing. It’s quite ordinary, with not much of a feeling to it. But they have a kids’ corner which is good news for all parents. Also , there are two floors in the restaurant so if you’re tired of children, you can run away upstairs 😉

As soon as I enter I know that I’ll be tempted by bread in Mr India! The kind of bread I haven’t see in other Indian restaurants in Warsaw. I see pictures of uttapam bread and idli buns and I know that some of them will end up in our order! As in all Indian restaurants, the menu is quite overwhelming. We’re thinking about chicken or lamb samosas to start with and traditionally, I’d like a paneer or veg pakora. But we continue our struggle through the pages until we reach a part with South Indian specialties with pancakes and more types of bread! We decide to take chicken masala dosa (PLN 28) – a rice and chickpeas bread with chicken, potatoes, onions and spices served with chickpeas and coconut sauces. It’s the only dosa with meat, the others are all vegetarian! Dosa will be our starter to share. We can’t wait for it and try to satisfy our hunger with incredible mango lassi (PLN 10).

Apart from dosa with chicken, we get the classics, chicken tikka masala (PLN 25) – bits of chicken in onion and tomato sauce. My veg-friend is also with us (remember her? :)) and she gets a chana masala (PLN 19) – chickpeas in curry sauce. Supposedly that’s the best meal to test an Indian restaurant. We get some sides to go with our main courses. Lemon rice to go with the chickpeas – basmati rice with curcumine, mustard seeds and fresh lime juice (PLN 10) and keema naan( PLN 16) – a naan stuffed with minced mutton and spices, baked in tandoor oven to go with chicken tikka masala.

All meals are tasty but not all are mind-blowing. The sauce in chicken tikka masala is perfectly seasoned, nicely spicy, just perfect! Makes you wanna lick the bowl clean! It’s good we have some naan bread so we can eat the sauce to the very last drop. However the meat is a bit disappointing – quite stiff and dry and when we ate the same thing in Mandala several days before bits of chicken were soft and tender. Naan bread with mutton is nothing special, I guess I prefer regular ones with butter or garlic. Chicken masala dosa becomes the hero of the day. That’s one meal we’ll surely get back to Mr India for! Or for other types of dosa, steamed Idli buns or uttapam bread made from fermented lentils and rice flour with tomatoes and onions. Our dosa was made of crispy and really addictive dough which we kept breaking and dipping in one of three fragrant sauces. It came with a solid, nicely spiced filling (and the chicken wasn’t stiff at all!!) and interesting, varied sauces. I’ll be honest with you. I’d go for it now!

Will Mr India make it to our Warsaw’s TOP? I think it’s too early to say… We’ve been to Mandala and Bombaj many times, there were no bummers and our taste buds went mad every time. Curry House was a love at first sight and we had absolutely no doubts about the place! I think we’ll get back to Mr India and see if we’re 100% satisfied 🙂 It’s surely a place worth going. If you live nearby, check it out for an everyday lunch or come with kids. And be sure take dosas! If you try uttapam and idli before I do, let me know if it’s worth it! 🙂

PS1. We got carried away once again and forgot to take a picture of the bill. But we paid about PLN 130 for 3.

PS2. Mr India also offers delivery.
