We haven’t been to Mąka i Woda for a really loooong time.. It’s sort of our thing to avoid the super-popular spots and find our own instead. Also, Łukasz didn’t like something there once he visited the place and therefore we avoided Mąka i Woda even though we’re on ul. Chmielna a few times every week. But you know what? Lately we got tired of the bar vibe of Vietnamese Toan Pho and Thai Tu Thai and we were looking for a place to have lunch in more friendly conditions and with different food. So I told Łukasz: ‘Come on, let’s go, we haven’t been there for such a long time!’ We also had some reinforcements coming with us – a travelling family – ATE Trips.

I have to say I wanted some kind of pasta but we learned that Mąka i Woda serves lunch menu only until 3 pm, and then after an hour long break, menu a la carte. Lunch menu includes primo and secondo for PLN 25. For primo you can have either a salad or a soup – this time san marzano tomato soup with parmesan. Secondi piatti can be one of four types of pizza – as we’re strong in numbers, we’re going to test all available lunch options: Semplice with san marzano tomatoes, taleggio cheese and Sicilian oregano, Due Formaggi with mozzarella di bufala, gorgonzola, chervil and black pepper and Amatriciana with tomatoes, mozzarella, pancetta and pecorino romano. There are some more non-lunch menu pizzas available as well as desserts including the famous Budino (caramel, milk chocolate, sea salt). Torta di pistacchio with pistachio, almonds, sour cream and citrus fruits sounds tempting too.

Łukasz goes off the beaten track and gets a pizza that’s not on the lunch menu – Diavola with tomatoes, smoked mozzarella di bufala, salami picante, basil, chili and parmesam (PLN 30). Our lunch is fantastic – the soup is creamy, tasty and nicely seasoned with tiny bits of parmesan. Pizza is tasty – with nice dough – not too thin and not too thick. It may not be as perfect as in Naples, but if you’re no Italian radical, pizza in Mąka i Woda should bring you pleasure. Łukasz’ Diavola almost bends underneath salami picante. Mine makes me surprised at first, since I missed the fact that it’s without tomatoes and I never order such pizzas. Lots of cheese on it instead. However gorgonzola gives it a nice spicy flavour and you want more, and you eat and eat and eat, even though you’re already full after one piece and the soup you had before… You already know what’s it gonna end. No chance for dessert this time! 🙁

Without desserts, but still full and happy, we leave Mąka i Woda remembering to visit the place more often. It’s good. Even better than we remembered. Such a pizza with a salad or soup for PLN 25 is an AMAZING option! Add free water served with lunch and you’ll get one of the most affordable lunches in town. Delicious and suitable for everyone – who doesn’t like pizza??? I don’t know… anyway I don’t trust such people! 😉
